Disconnecting the auto g/box lock

This will sound like a strange question but bear with me

we have a vw bora so the systems will be the same...it has an auto box

you have to depress the footbrake in order to move the gearbox into drive from park or neutral!!

i hate this nannying attitude ....

is there anyway i can disconnect or modify this mechanism in order to move the selector without depressing the brake pedal???

i have the wiring diagram but as far as i can tell if i disconnect the brake switch the brake lights will be on permanently and i am not even sure what effect it has on the gearbox? help please
