Warm Air from air-con-Help

Hi,

This is my first desparate post !

I have a A3 2004 sport TDI 2.0, owned it for only a few months and a very nice car....but I've recently tried the air-con and nothing...! I just start to boil-up.

So I have taken it over to my local garage and had it all re-gassed, still nothing....now I'm not happy £75 lighter and still nice warm air :-(

When I push the Air-con button the engine revs stay exactly the same, to me its as if the air-con motor isnt working !*! but I know nothing!

The guy at the garage has checked all the fuses which are located under the bonnet, and appear ok.....

Any help/advice here would be great.....please

If your sure its correctly gassed and is holding pressure, ie not leaking any gas. Then maybe the fault lies with the compressor clutch?

Yes I'm happy that its been gassed correctly, and the clutch could be the problem...but how do I prove this?

You should detect a change in engine note fron idle when the compressor cuts in. It could be a few things, but aircon systems are relatively simple so it should be fairly easy to diagnose.

Ok, I have followed the thread you kindly posted for me, and have sat in the and pushed the econ button off, waited 30secs and turned it ack on...I do here the click as you describe but the engine revs do not rise.......ant ideas what this could mean???

The engine revs shouldn't rise anyway, if anything they should drop as the load from the compressor kicks in. Have you read the whole of that thread? There are loads on here about aircon - I havent got time to search them out right now but have a look yourself.

I would have a 'word' with your garage if they have charged you and it still doesn't work. Did they tell you how much gas was in the system before the recharged it?

Its worth taking it to a local aircon specialist I would think, there loads in yellow pages so just pick one if you don't have any recommendations. I paid £58 to mine regassed btw.

Check if you have voltage at the aircon pump when you switch the aircon on. You chould have at least 12v. If you do and the pump is not working the clutch unit is faulty. If you dont have 12v the problem is further up the line.

The problem may be with the pressure switch mounted on the bulkhead or with the control unit below the radio. Any case check the continuity of the pump power feed.

As a test for the pump with a direct 12v feed for a few seconds if it engages and the lines feel cold the pump should be ok.
