1.8T 2000 Auto. Gearbox

To cut a long story short.. I am surprised at Audi for there lack of imagination in relation to a the 'bad' (clunky, harsh, renault Built) Gearbox in my 2000 A3, especially after coming up with such a good car as this platform.

So, I was wondering. Can a newer, say, tiptronic Gearbox be retrofitted, or, can my Gearbox be upgraded or strengthned in some way to improve it ..
