Considering buying an 1996 A6 with a snapped timing belt.

Will the valves have met pistons?

If the guy selling didn't bother sticking to the service intervals for the belt what else did he neglect to do, you could be buying a lemon that has a whole host of other problems in store.
Whats the engine code.
checked elsawin for the ABC engine. If you changing the timing belt it warns that no cylinder should be at TDC during fitment as there is chance of damage to the valves due to them touching the pistons so I guess that means its an interference engine
