Hi all. I've got an A4 2002 2.0 Avant. I replaced a frequently failing brake light lat week for MOT and since then they both come on in the middle of the night. All it takes to switch them off is to tap the brake pedal, no ignition needed. It's still annoying, I don't want to get up at 4am every night and it seems so odd that it's only at night, unless I've just not noticed it during the day. Could it be an over-sensitive switch? But why no iginition required and the car is all locked up - weird eh? Any ideas?

Its the brake light switch connected to the brake pedal.
A faulty one can cause the brake light to come on even when the ignition is off and the car locked.

It's great to now be able go to the dealer / service centre with the answer to such a weird problem, you never know what rubbish (expensive) theories some of them would come up with, though I've been lucky so far. Many thanks to Simon and Audi-sport.net
