Ash tray not closing

My ash tray stopped closing today. It is in an S3 - I believe the tray stays shut based on some magnetic/electronic field? I have stored coins in here for the last few years - not sure if this will have done it, although nothing has changed recently.

Any tips on a quick fix, before I take it into a garage?

This used to happen on my S3, always in winter when it was very cold - I used to cure it by heating the cabin up, then pressing the lid firmly down (as far as it will go) and holding it down for a few seconds.

Try this and lemme know if it works..

There are 3 out at the moment

I've had my S3 8L one out plenty of times and the mechanism closes due to a very small pin locking it in place and this often breaks, leaving it impossible to keep shut.
