I've got a 1995 Coupe 2.0E that has developed a repetitive knocking noise.
The knocking noise increases with car speed and seems to be coming from the O/S drive shaft. The noise is only there when either accelerating or decelerating under engine breaking ie when the wheels are under torque.

It has been to two independent garages, both of which have had it up on the ramp and checked all suspension bushings and play in the CV joints. Neither of them could identify what was causing the noise, nor could they replicate the noise after having the car up on the ramp.

Has anyone out there experienced this problem, if so what was the cause?

Please please please help me!!!!!!!! I'm begging you!

Cheers,
Ben.

If the noise happens when turning under torque it is normally an outer CV. If it happens all the time then the inner CV is normally to blame, though it could be something else. I would also check engine and gearbox mountings, and check to see if anything is loose or has shifted. maybe and exhaust mounting? I presume they checked for play in the wheel bearings too and the shocks?
