Hi, tried this post in A3 / S3 section but no response,
Q. has anyone tried descreening, (removing the mesh section), from the MAF housing on a 2002 S3, and are there any gains or problems when doing so.
I believe the mesh is used as a flow straightener but if removed can give an increase of 25% approx airflow. cheers.

Erm I think the screen also acts as protection to the airbox/intake incase of any foreign object breaking away/through the airfilter

Currently on my second S3 and both have been de-screened. Cant say I noticed major difference, however between the 2 cars I have probably notched up over 50K miles with no problems whatsoever

The screening is there to "straighten" the air passing the MAF for an accurate reading.

Removing the mesh will not gain you any extra power.
