Okay, lets start from day one.

I have an Audi a3 BKD engine 140 bhp. No modifications.
From as long as i can remember it has had a really lumpy idle, so i took it down to 3 different local garages that all came up with various annecdotes. After listening to them i ventured back home to play with the following, i changed the fuel filter, air filter took off the EGR valve and throttle body and cleaned them up so there are now free, cleaned out the inlet manifold.
After doing the above still no better, so i took it back to one of the locals and they poked around and said injector seals, the garage then changed the injector seals and still no better.
After they changed them and i paid £300 i called it quits it's only doing it at idle i'll live with it... a week later i notice a SERIOUS lack of power no boost at all.
I have taken it to a localmechanic who had a little closer look and saw the timing is out.... adjusted the timing to its's correct postion and like magic it idles perfectly..
He has also changed the injector seals again because the garage i took it to before put my injectors in wrong...
Now that just leaves the loss of power. He has hooked it up to VAGCOM alongside a BKD golf and they read the exact same readings, he swapped over boost sensors, the MAF egr and throttle body but none made any difference to my car, in comparison on the road the golf just took off while my Audi feels flat... It's not in limp mode and there are no fault codes.

Please if anyone could shed any light on what i haven't tried yet, i would be very grateful.

Yours Thankfully,

Anthony

Assume he checked the piping for boost leaks, turbo issues, assume the imf is actually moving ok, as these are known to break internally, so if its half open, then this may restrict power when accelerating hence low boost, but idle ok as only needs that small amount of air to idle ok.

Hi NHN,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I asked if he checked for boost leaks, he confirmed he had, where does the IMF stick? Could this issue be related to the previous garage playing with my injectors or do you think it's just coincidence? Also have you heard anything about the wastegate diaphragm sticking on the turbo?

Thanks Again,

Anthony

The vanes can stick on bkd turbo's fairly common yes, removal of turbo is best to check & clean up.

Thought so, i'll get him to take it off, would there be any other symptoms other than a big loss in power... ie black smoke or anything similar?

Thanks,

Anthony

Hey NHN, Or anybody else reading.

The past week my mechanic has taken a look at the turbo and verified that there is nothing sticking in the turbo and it's completely free.
He has also taken it for a drive with each individual piece of my exhaust off to see if there was a blockage in any.

Sorry to be a pain but i just don't understand why he can't find the problem, could you guys share any knowledge?

Thanks in advance,

Anthony

Well next, could try swapping the solenoid valve block that houses a number of solenoids, this can effect a number of things & certainly all those systems, I have a SVB here if interested.

I mean they've checked turbo, cleaned the egr/imf,checked the imf for movement, checked injectors, checked for leaks, maf, boost sensor, fuel filter, timing, assume air filter changed aswell.

Only things left are SVB, Injectors themselves, injector loom, fuel pump under rear seat & tandem fuel pump on right side of engine, I've probably forgotten something, but cant recall anything right now.

Hi NHN,

The mechanic says he's already had a look at the fuel pumps, the injector loom and the SVB.

I'm not very happy with my Audi at the moment how can it be that all of the above mentioned are working fine, but still there is a huge loss of power, i don't understand.

There must be something wrong with it right?

Can you think of anything missed?

Life is **** without my car :(

Thanks,
Anthony

Hey guys,

Right now my mechanic reckons he has come o stand still with my car and dosen't think there is anything left he can check without sending parts to a specialist.

He said he replaced the SVB with the working one off the golf and made no difference, he has checked the fuel pressure and all the boost sensors. he says my turbo is free as a bird.

The only thing that has been done before this loss of power was the guys at the previous garage changed the injector seals, could they have done something they shouldn't?

Any more you can say on this subject would be great, also do you think it would be either an air issue or fuel?

Thanks,

Anthony
