    Job interveiw

Well guys and girls i got a job interveiw tomorrow a 9.50 for a job that i have a real good chance at getting its only part time but its better than nothing and as most of you might know i have been out of work for over a year now so my fingers are crossed. Ive never had an interveiw before ive always gone to the place and asked if they have any jobs and if they have they put me on a 3 month trial and its gone from there i always work my arse off so no problems there but i cant talk to people if you know what i mean so any suggestions are very welcome

    Cheers Gareth

What line of work are you in ? As advice can be dependant on the type of job.

well general advice is be cool and confident, but not cocky. Tell them what you imagine an employer would like to hear, for example, punctual, clean and tidy worker etc.

Probably would be honest, else if you dont it may come round to bite you on the ass.

Yes mate, confidence is a key, be clear and concise, dont jumble the words up and gobbledegook it up, give them what they want to hear.

    Be polite too....that always helps.

Without being modest i consider myself excellent in interviews and i always look forward to them.

If you can get abit of humour in there without making it obvious or looking like your trying to hard it will help alot, as people have said be cool, confident but not over confident, dont swear, use clear language.

Think before you answer questions, dont just blurt things out and do not ramble on, be quick to the point and sell yourself (remember you are selling yourself, be careful not just to say what you think they want to hear).

Do not be negative about yourself unless you feel it will win points with the interviewers!, what i mean by this is you must access the people your talking to, do they look like they can take a joke, are they overly serious or laid back.

I think i'll be PM'ing Dazmo also when I have an interview. My mate has the same interview idea though. He recently wanted to become a maths teacher, so went for the interview for the PGCE. He was massively underqualified, but had them all proper laughing and they saw that he had what they wanted in a teacher so got the job.

Staying cool and calm does indeed work. All this said, i still hate interviews! Although i've got the last two i went to, so perhaps i'm ok at them.

Good luck with the job tazzy. Let us know the verdict.

I used to work as a Training and Safety Manager in a previous job, a lot of my work was done with new starters into the company i worked for, so i used to come across the interview part often.

As Others have said, for any others going for interviews, be confident, talk clearly, try not to, erm, uhm, etc.
But most of all be prepared - If possible ask for a job description prior to your interview, then read through the key skills required for the role, and set out where and how you've come across these in previous jobs or general day-2-day life - For example; Tell me how you've dealt with a customer complaint and what did you do to resolve it.
Don'tbe affraid to bullsh*t a little - I always do... But remember if you're spinning a beard, think the story through first in your head, picture it as if it actualy happened, then when you need it for the skill set etc, wheel out the beard..!

As Dazmo said, i enjoy interviews, but then i used to enjoy public speaking as i thought i was a bit of a comic once up there!

I went for a job a few years back for Group4 as an Area Manager of some sort - great money, well above my normal role. Smashed the interview by spinning them what they wanted to hear.
The Woman from the agency that put me forward, rang and told me - The job is yours, just pass the online test and thats it - I failed it... lol Fractions FFS... Bad times

Lol those tests make me laugh, its funny because when you actually get into the job you find you didnt even need to know what they tested you on.

    True, these tests are rubbish!!!

I dont understand why companies will gladly let you do a role without getting paid for it, but then when the opportunity comes up and you go for the role, you have to do some poxy test to 'prove' you can do the role and then end up failing it coz of bloody fractions and scenarios that would NEVER come up in the role you are working in, let alone any other job.....but you know, the test knows best, even though you have been doing the job for God knows how many years!!!

Rant over...let us know how you get on dude
