    CCNP/CCIP and accreditation

Hi all im looking for some clarification on these 2 statements in 2 different job adverts i will get some training from my company, but im sh*tting myself on how hard these courses are, before i get some more info about the job i want to know what i should be prepared for

'CCNP/CCIP level or commitment to achieve within 6 months.' not sure what they mean level or commitment

    and also this job statement

    • Technical knowledge of either Microsoft or UNIX platforms

    • Commitment to achieve accreditation within 6-12 months. is this related to the description above?

any sort of advice please has anyone acheived any of these?

    much much appreciated

mitch's link gives good information on the Cisco ladder - definitely worth familiarising yourself with.

They just mean they want you to be a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional (CCIP) [which is like a CCNP but with longer wires - heh], and if you're not, that you'll agree to complete the courses within their timeframe.

    and also this job statement

So that's a bit broad - they want you to have technical knowledge of Windows or Nix. Not much serious computing happens on anything else (sorry Mac fans), of course there's HPC that uses proprietary OS but most of that's Nix based anyway. I guess they just want you to prove that you know what's going on under the hood in both platforms - guessing based on the Cisco bit above, I'd expect that if you've got a deep understanding of the Network Stack in either, and presumably some knowledge of the fillesystems you're on the right track.

    • Commitment to achieve accreditation within 6-12 months. is this related to the description above?
Again, they're just saying that if you can demonstrate that you know your s**t, but don't have CCNP/CCIP certificates just yet it's not the end of the word - they'd just rather you did complete the courses within 6-12 months. I dare say an MCP or two (or an MCSA/MCSE if you have) would go a long way to demonstrating your ability to meet this expectation.

CCNP/CCIP would be tricky to work through as self-study within 6-12 months - particularly if you're working full time as well - it needn't be impossible though. Intensive courses would probably be your best bet, but they cost ŁŁŁŁ and again have to be worked around other commmitments...

    All the best,

    Rob.

The CCNA is tricky but not impossible, suprised they have gone straight for the jugluar with CCNP.

The problem with common sense, is that its not that common.
