pc sound not working properly? Help

Why has the sound coming out of my amplfied speakers become so low. The last time it happened i downloaded the latest version of media player and it sorted itself out but doesnt seem to be working on this occassion. Could it be my sound card or just some software problem somewhere. Cheers!

might be a silly question but have you checked the volume on the desktop?

Sometimes the `wave' becomes low- click on the loudspeaker icon in the task bar and the first two sliders should be high.

Or go to control panel-sound and audio devices.

also write the spec of ur pc eg operating system soundcard type etc and if only happens with certain programs?
