A former colleague of mine once had a similar issue. All he did was phoned the AA, they towed the car to Halfords, they managed to remove the knackered locking wheel nut and replace all others, all sorted.

Why didn't he just hammer an extension bar into the middle of the bolt?
Or drill the thing out?
Or remove the hub nut and take the whole hub off to work on it.
Damn I had similar issue, just smacked a socket on & wound it of, even a weld would of loosened it to remove no doubt, anything better than that, but tbh it all comes down to timing, wheel worth & situation, so maybe not as clean cut (pun intended) as we think.
