Hi guys is anyone feeling the credit crunch,because to be honest i am still spending and still buying stuffs and i am still going on holiday soon.His anyone out there really feeling the recession.....

I guess it depends on how secure people feel about their jobs. Many people seem to be facing the threat of redundancy.
Day to day I personally haven't noticed any difference apart from what they say on the news. We are still flat out at work even though we are in the construction industry (Consulting Civil & Structural Engineers)
You are one the many few then, problem in construction is the payment timescales, my mates been in construction for years & he runs a scaffolding company & he says its ridiculous, untold companies gone down, he's sold lorries, staff all gone, just him & his partner working & calls in guys when he needs, hard times for all especially when you dont get paid for 90 days or even longer & worse of is the many times they've been fecked by builders who dont pay & feck of to spain etc
Just annoys the hell outta me as what happened to having a conscience huh, seems to be the norm to **** people about these days, I used to spend most of my time chasing payment, the work was easy side of running business, but chasing people for money was a fecking joke, really was, the old chestnut oh MD has to sign the cheque, uh but you pay me by Bacs, I mean WTF do they think we're stupid, cost me so much wasted time really did, no wonder its gone to **** overpriced houses anyway & wages havnt risen to be able to cope with higher housing costs.

It's effected me slightly, but not enough to effect my day to day life, not spent much on my car neither lately, which helps...
Not made any change to my spending habbits, really busy at work and it seems people are still wacking money through our till. We got rid of 1 lad in november but that was down to his quality of work but we givin the reason things were getting tight.
Nope, no difference to me. I've worked on and off with the same central government department for 11 years and things carry on as normal whether it is boom or bust.
I'm also going to be in a very fortunate position in a couple of months where I will be in able to pay off my mortgage (that's through hard work & saving, not through an inheritance) - so I'll be completey free of any debt at the age of 35.

Not really. I guess I will see what the future holds for my job at the start of the financial year but in the mean time I will carry on spending and putting money into the economy.
Ive run My own company for over 30 years (Roof Tiling) And never known things so hard ! Ive laid off all of the staff And just work on My own now All of the builders that once kept us busy are unable to sell property thats finished. So building more is simply not on !!!!
Theres houses by me half built and have sat like that for months now! Has not affected me yet but I work in manufacturing and although sales have dropped 30% in the last 6 months, everyone is still employed!
My mate lost his job as a systems engineer on Friday as they lost some big contracts. One of them was Honda in Swindon which is shut at the mo so not needed! He said a couple of years back he was being head hunted, now he knows of at least 5 people in a similar role to him fighting over the same jobs that come up in order to pay the mortgage! Its dog eat dog in the job market!

It has affected me a lot
was made redundant from a job of six years in July and got a job contracting in Banbury but a better paid contract came up with more money and on my doorstep in October,at christmas they told me they didn't require my services in the new year! Have just took a job which is a lot less pay.
Nearly all of my friends are feeling the pinch...Big E (transport manager)has took a 3 grand paycut,Neil (executive chef)has had staff made redundant making his job a lot harder,Grunty(toolmaker) has been laid off two weeks a month,Mark(robot programmer) is on a three day week and they are also taking money out of their pensions to subsidise it,Jez(jag specialist) is on a four day week,Ant (IT consultant)has not worked for four months,Daz (mechanic) has been made redundant.
and Dean (copper)is also struggling as he told me the other day he won't be able to go skiing this year because of the credit crunch

its affecting me big time i was in the building game till christmas eve then we all got laid off due to the lack of work. i am not entitled to any benefits after paying into the system for 33 years so basicaly i have gone from bringing in 370 a week to nothing so to say it as affected me is an under statement and the worrying thing is it seems to get worse every time the news comes on

Guys just watching sky news now and BMW are cutting 600 jobs and KFC are creating 6000 jobs,imagine from a automotive industry and to start working in a fast food chain industry.Thats really bad..
I think its hit some bad and hasn`t touched others, Well managed companies seem least hit then others just can`t get out of the way. I do find it hard when the big building firms are crying poor they have just had 8 years of boom and didn`t complain about the vast profits they were making. Whats happened to company`s slush funds ????

hi all what this government ( i used that word losely ) should of done was invest in building affordable social housing the country is crying out for housing they could of employed thousands of people on housing projects thousands still earning thousands still paying tax and insurance thousands not claiming benefits and a solution to the housing problem. but no they chose to give it to the banks so they could waste it on the tax payers behalf once again knee jerk reaction from this bunch of clowns and when its all over and the country is bankrupt we still have an housing problem. and these people went to university god help us

I'd rather work in fastfood than have no Job mate..... oh hang on, I do work in FASTFOOD! and I've already stated that the the credit crunch hasn't effected much - yet.
Not a dig at those who have lost their jobs, or currently looking for jobs, but for those looking/struggling, surely any Job you come accross is worth a punt to some extent, if it gets you off your **** and brings some income in, no?!

I'm a project manager for a utility company, which is actually owned by an American bank, so all our project funding has been pulled. Even though the utility company is performing well financially, all the profit is being sucked into the bank to get it out of the sht. So, with no projects to manage, I'm out the door soon.
No differance for me at all ether Job wise and spending money etc...
its actualy gotten better this year for work... i work for my fathers company, we are a CADCAM company and do alot of Aerospace/car parts and i guess we are getting more customers due to them not going to the usual over priced big companies and are looking at little cheapers companies like us....
Only thing thats bothering me is that i cant sell any of my stuff as no one wants to spend there money haha
anyone wanna buy a computer?

As the owner yes, but there was a point in my business about 3-4 years back when I was making a loss on a weekly basis, but I still paid my staff full wages, but I managed to turn it around and things are looking healthy again.
So it doesn't always pay to be the Boss....
nice one Jojo, just out of interest how come a chinese meal is cheaper than a curry ??? per portion if that makes sence. meal for 2 at chinese is £10 where as a curry is £18.

By curry, I take it you mean Indian right? I'm not too sure to be honest, but I guess with and Indian Curry, they use a few more exotic herbs and spices to get their flavours, I mean the taste lingers for a bit after you have eaten one, so they don't hold back on the ingredients. But Chinese takeaway is all very basic stir-fry stuff which can be ****** in a short amount of time allowing for quick turnover, with exeption of a few dishes.

LMAO!!I work in IT at Oxford University, and we should ride out this recession reasonably well, as if people stop sending their kids to Oxford, what's the rest of the country like!!
We currently have a recruitment freeze, but we recently advertised for several IT staff and got very little response, which was very surprising.
