    Classic Car Insurance.

I have just found out by chance that cars which qualify for classic cars insurance(over 10 years old) do NOT need NCB to get insured!
This is opening up a lot of options to me on owning a dream car of mine, but it will probably be limited mileage and garaged, which is not a problem for me, since I hardly use my S3 now with recent changes in my work in the last few years.

Does anyone else know anything more on classic car insurance that I should know about?

Maybe it is time to let go of my S3 after 7 years or so of ownership...

each company is different HIC said the car needed to be 15 years old to be classed as a classic, you don't always build NCB with the policies and sometimes they mirror you NCB from your main car. Oh and they are usually cheap and you can agree a valuation on them. Max miles per year was 5000

Just remember, it is a flat premium and so you don't build up NCB that you can then transfer to another car. I've had my Speedster insured for 7 years, no claims, but zero NCB from this if I wanted to transfer it. I pay roughly 175 full comp agreed value with 3000 mile limit. Add in free road tax as it is 1971 donor vehicle, and the only extra it costs me above fuel is the 50 for the MOT.

I used to have a range rover on classic insurance, that was 8 yrs old when I put it on classic, with unlimited mileage not garaged and i think it was around 290 or so for the year not bad for a 3.9 V8, when I got my old audi cabriolet I think that was about 5 years old at the time they wouldn't cover that so I went to privilidge for "regular" insurance and they accepted a letter from the classic insurers to say that I had not made a claim in the 5 years I was with them so the lack of NCB due to it been classic insurance wasn't an issue, I still use classic insurance for my series 1 land rover at a whopping 110 for a years cover.

My Lancia Beta is on Classic insurance. I pay 400 a year which is over the odds and I will look elsewhere his year. It's limited to 5000k per year and has to be garaged. (Which is a good thing for a Lancia!)
Something to note is if you want an agreed value you will have to supply quite a few photos of the car in it's present condition for them to value it. I did it on a disc and sent them that.
I'm pretty sure mine is getting NCB, but will have to check that.

You'd have dirt cheap insurance on one of those. you could specify such a small annual mileage allowance cos the thing would be broken down 362 days a year!!
