Getty Images - Sites being sued?

Hi

I'm on small golf (the sport!!) forum and the owner is thinking of shutting the site down because he has been told that as the site owner he is liable for unlicensed LINKS (hosted on other sites) of images from Getty etc. There are bots who are going out and checkings sites and supposedly the fines are in the 10's of thousands!!!!

I'm guessing the same issue would apply here?

Anybody got any info which is more than speculation?

Yeh to be honest, i'm not sure.

I think some people have been buying the photo's and then posting them all over, rather than just to the agreement, which i believe is usually just for use on one site.
