New thread idea....

Post the worst mod/addition you have ever seen on a car (some examples.. Blue washer jets, italic numberplates, Nismo stickers on a Ford)

Maybe we can have a vote on the worst one.
 
Where i used to work i used to see a lot. Aluminium wing on a fwd rover 216 convertible or how about using a roof spoiler as a bonnet vent on a pug 205. :no:
 
i need to try and get a photo but there is a rover in sainsburys car park with 2 shark fin antennas on the roof, various mesh bits, and stupid stickers
 
I kid you not, I've seen home-made spring clamps to lower a car.

A car came in with the owner complaining of a knocking on turns.

The oversized clamps that held a few coils together were hitting on the inner wing when the front steering was turned.

Hmmmmmm, really safe that one. :-0
 
I remember doing an MoT test on a metro that had the rear hub nut loose to the point of dropping off, the wheel must have been moving about 10-15 degrees from the vertical parallel each way. Refused to continue the test.
It had a full set of harnesses in it, the way the hub was attached, it would have needed them.
 
Theres an B5 A4 in the gallery that falls into this catagory if you ask me lol. Flip paint and chrome wheels shocking.
 
Usually I'm concerned about the type of modifications that just seem to have no point.

Recently saw some flashing blue led's mounted on a dash board, pointing right at the driver.

It was kind of like.....now you see me, now you don't and with each flash, surely he was blinded.........just bizarre.
 
Can I offer these?

Lambo style doors...on a Saxo/Golf etc...wrong.

Too large a tailpipe (usually with the smallest of bore pipes visible entering the tailpipe)

Too many tailpipes

Additional wings/spoilers on the rear of a FWD car...for downforce! Right...

Coilovers wound so far down that driveshafts/ARBs rub...and the meagre handling the car once had has long since been banished.

Those fake drilled discs...just wrong.

Wheels so far out they stick out the arches...and stretched tyres firmly in the 'dangerous' area. Shouldn't be on the road...

Or mahoosive wheels squeezed onto a small car...with tiny brakes behind. Why?

Any form of neon lighting under the car.

Any form of LED numberplate lights/washer jets

German style number plates (that'll upset a few!)

Pointless smoothing - especially moving a number plate from a perfectly good location, to a plainly stupid location...only to have to spend a fortune on making good the space the number plate used to occupy. Pointless...completely pointless.

DIY tinted rear lights, so dark that you can't see the brake lights.

Fibreglass bodykits of any kind. Never seen a decent made one yet...nor a decent end result, once fitted.


That'll do for starters...

That first one is classic!

Following on from these, spotting twin exit exhausts on start up, but condensation only coming out one, nice.
 
I seen a silver x-type jag 53 plate last week.

It had
  • leopard skin seat covers in the front covering the grey leather interior
  • A stick on 'jaguar' on the bonnet (illegal also)
  • chrome badges at the front of the drivers and passenger doors- starting at the top jaguar,diesel,v6,turbo,sport,4x4
  • led aerial
  • neon washer jets
  • and neons on the number plates
  • And a chrome tail pipe trim, self tapped to the bumper to make it look a twin pipe
  • Oh anda set of tassled cushions on the back seats
I was gutted for jaguar
 
I spotted a rather natty 106 about Aberdeen...with 4 x oval tailpipes, 2 either side.

Sadly, only the outer two (one each side) were black with soot from the ill running engine (an FSE 'power boost valve' no doubt!) whereas the inners were still pristine and gleaming...and hence FAKE.

I despair.
 
following on from the Jag bad badge comments above...

I hate seeing Type-R badges on things that plainly aren't.

I was once unfortunate enough to have this young chap enthuse loudly about his Prelude 'show car' (another pet hate of mine...what the **** is a 'show car'?) at which point he left to fetch said beast, apperaring some time later with this firbrglassed, flip painted, standard engined - and automatic - abortion complete with chrome silly wheels (and matching tiny brakes), heyooge wing and...a selection of not very real looking (read: cheap *****!) Type-R badges.

I had to leave.
Quickly.
 
What a reversal of fortune it is that Skoda is now much much more desirable than things like Saxo's and Corsa's.

If you dont mind me asking, how are you getting on with your VRS?

Im off to look at one next week, must say they hold onto their value rather well...

I love it...
Not super fast, nor particularly great handling...but it's unfeasibly easy to go quick in...with all that torque. Nice and quiet too.
It handles tidily (it will understeer and roll of course) and I wouldn't want to do a trackday with the brakes...but overall, cheap insurance, £115 per year road tax and 50 MPG for a car that will embarass VR6 Golfs in high gears, aint bad!

With a Tuning Box / Re-map they are very much quicker...

I bought it as a basic little run about, to save using my uncompromising GTI or the 911...and sadly, neither of the other two have seen much use since picking up the Fabia...it's just sooooo nice to drive.

Especially fun is to see how many 'faster cars' you can leave in a cloud of black smoke coming off roundabouts etc...much fun!


Standard vRS seats are a nightmare to keep clean though...so watch out for that.
The leather solves that...
The stereo sounds pretty good - loud enough for me...the CD player works, as does the cruise....everything just works as it should.


I never thought I'd ever buy a diesel car...but there you go...
I'm a convert.
For everyday use, I doubt I'd buy another petrol now.
I still prefer petrol cars as proper driving tool, but as an everyday get you from A to B in comfort, with little effort and without breaking the bank...they are superb.


Great little car for the money...and it really is cheap to run.
I love it...(the vRS that is)

There is a crappy pug 406 near me with fake spinner wheel trims and type-R badges.
Looks a ****** mess.
 
Thinking of badges...
I really like when Escort drivers fit a 'Sorted' badge in place of their Escort badge...generally on a vehicle which is very far from actually being 'sorted'!
 
Viper strips on Pug 406's or anything that should not have one!! Also my neighbour has a very old magan (and is old himself) and has just added chrome wheel caps!!!

And also cars with hundreds of stupid refelectors on them especialy new nice cars where some stupid idiot has added them.

I have to agree with that, my mums got a vRS and I drive it more than my a3 sometimes!!

anyway with c*** modifications has to be electric dump valves, lexus style rear lights, spinner wheel trims, hand painted graphics on cars!!

See loads of these,really does look crap.See quite a few RS or S badged Audis too which obviously arent.:asskicking:

You must like re-building transmissions :p

Everyone I know who's had one has had to re-build the gearboxe or transfer box...some many times over.

Shame, as they seem to be a real weakpoint on an otherwise interesting car.
