ive been to the hospital today for a 3 month follow up appointment after the op i had on my knee.

and although most of the problems seem to have been sorted, its still not 100% and is giving me some pain.

so after waiting in the waiting room for almost 3 hours as they were running 2 hours 50mins late, i get to see some sidekick doctor not my actually surgeon this time

so i explain my problems to him and this is what he suggested.

avoid walking - how the hell do i get around???

aviod kneeling down - my job requires this quite alot

avoid sitting in the same postition for to long or on soft furniture - so what i sit on the floor?

dont use stairs - how the hell do i get to bed? and was an excersise i was told to do by physio

rest leg in straight postition when in bed - see above!!!!!!!

dont cycle - which is my favourite pastime and someting the physio told me to do to strengthen the knee

and finally dont stand for to long - wtf ??????????

ive rung my doctors to explain and ask for a second opinion new appointment with someone who isnt stupid

good old nhs

Hi mate
sorry to hear about your problems but looks like he's got every base covered there.

i think he had got so much grief from everyone as they were running so late, that he just said anyhting without thinking or as i more suspect he is stupid!

Thats about normal, in the NHS im afraid lol.... and i have been working here for 7 years now :)

You shold try talking to the Drs etc that can not even string a few words togeter and their english.

Sorry to hear what's happened. What op did you have done? I had anterior cruciate ligament replacement myself 1 year ago (using hamstrings), and even after following all the physio and stuff it is still not right. Just resigned to the fact that my knee is only ever going to be 90%. I've got similar symptoms to you - kneeling down is a problem, sitting in the same position is a problem (knee locks up). Fortunately I can cycle ok - which I agree - should be good for the knee/recovery as it is non-weight bearing and the exercise is in a single plane (i.e. no twisting). Big test for me will be first time skiing on it next year - I hope it holds up.

You are definitely right to ask for another opinion. If you trust your physio, then their opinion is probably more valid. I saw mine 25 times over 6 months and she knew far more about what was going on than the consultant by the end.

Good luck.

PMSL, and i thought it was only me who wasn't getting VFM for my tax ££'s

develop pains in my kidneys, speak to nurse at work who advises me to visit my Dr

phone for appointment, try to fob me off with one 3 days into the future, explain the amount of pain i'm in and finally get a slot later that day. Receptionist admonishes me for not ringing as soon as the pain started (the previous day so presumably that was so they could get me in two days into the future and not three)

turn up for my appointment 15 mins early. get called in to see Dr who can't find my records. Dr disappears for 10 mins to return and tell me they've transferred me to the practice across the road, it'd have helped if they told me this.

Drag my aching body to the other side of the road, Receptionist looks puzzled as she can't find my records either. gives me a temperary form to fill in and a bottle to wee into. Contemplate weeing all over the thing to get my own back for the walk across the road.

sit in waiting room for nearly an hour reading the Womens Mags and trying not to look too gay whilst they try to slot me in.

finally called in to see Dr, spend 2 minutes explaining my problem and how the works Nurse had already done some tests and suggested a kidney infection.

Dr prods me in the stomach twice (i think the latter of the prods was the second opinion) and announces i have a kidney infection

writes out a prescription for some antibiotics

so an hour and half for 2 prods in the stomach and i still have no idea where my records went to

ive been having physio now for almost 3 years from when i first injured it, and all the time except when i had the op they told me to cycle etc as it would help speed recovery.

what racks me off even more was that he just came in the room stood there whilst i told him the problems, then blurted out the above crap and left, without even touching/checking the knee

he obviously has xray vision lol

I had an op on my knee 4 years ago when I managed to eventually wreck it. After ages of phsyio, they told me cycling was fine as it's a non impact loading on the knee which builds the muscles without doing other damage. I haven't had many problems with it since. I wouldn't say that it will be the answer to your problems as I'm not a doctor, but I am surprised you were told not to do it.

The best day of my life was when i started working for the company i am with now .......I have full BUPA cover included in my salary and has been a god send ........A year ago i had a problem with prostate had the whole cancer scare thing going on in my head .......went to see doctor he sent letter to BUPA and i seen specialist in 3 days and had scans in a week and had op in a month .My doctor said that if it was NHS i would have been lucky to see someone in a month never mind scans and endure the pain it was causing me to

Sorry to hear of your problems mate but if you can afford it i would go private in a second

ive had it with NHS doctors, they seem to think a "fix" is the same as a cop out...
ive got a bad wrist boxing injury (no tommy tank jokes please lol) and the doctor just said,
"you'll just have to stop going the gym and boxing"
that aint no fix, if my car was broke and i went the garage, if they cnt find the prob they dont say
"sorry mate...if u just dont drive it forwards it'll be fine...oh and avoid hills"
gonna go provate and see a physio soon.
oh i love the NHS!!
