Is it just me or does there seem to be far more spam coming through on the boards compared to about a year ago? Europlates, test messages, random, random stuff.

I'm not having a go at anyone (other than the spammers) but they seem to be getting more and more ingenious. I remember a while back reading that a huge percentage of all e-mail traffic was just spam (the number 80% sticks in my head, but I could be wrong).

Maybe this should be in the rant/raves???

Mike

If anyone wants to make me a mod, I'll gladly delete all spam posts within a few minutes of being posted.

Otherwise, I'll continue to "Report Bad Post" to alert the authorities...:hi:

Probably about 80% spam is right.

Web bourne spyware/malware is on the up as well, cos the spammers are realising that people are getting wise.

What prople don't realise is 1 in 4 of spam attacks are targeted phishing scams.

That's scary.

I think I remember reading somewhere that 75% of all internet usage is now BitTorrent P2P

But I certainly seem to get an awful lot more junk or spam email than I do proper email from contacts.
In my Hotmail address, I even get herbal viagra spams that get through because it pretends to be actually from my own email address.

Cheeky monkeys. How do I stop them doing that? :asskicking:

People spoof your address, crafty buggers.

I own and operate a rather large Owners Club, and we have had horrendous problems with Spammers Signing up to make one post for "Cheap Generic Viagra" etc - so i was forced into turning my validation settings to Manual, so now i approve every member! It's a ballache, but it keeps them away!

Get yourself a Gmail address.... job's a good'n!

it really is a tough one. I have put quite a bit in place to stop this:

Image verification on signup
email validation link
not allowed to post links until 2-3 posts

Apart from being vigilant and reporting these posts to either myself or ming, im not sure there is anymore we can do.

ASN is targeted because of its high user base and popularity.
