Legally they dont have to sell at that price, its a common thing on websites for pricing cock ups & never heard of anyone actually getting the goods at the price they ordered it for!

I had a free £20 voucher code for littlewoods online, no min spend. They honoured the deal but withdrew the code the same day as it spread like wildfire over the net.

TBH i think if you push it they would need to honur it, reason being if you go into a shop and the wrong price is on an item no matter what it is i 99p for 50 inch plasma telly they must honur the advertising price, otherwise it is false advertsing and Trading Standards would rip them for it.

They don't have to honor it, and they won't honor it. There has been several test cases. If it was a Fiver out, then yes they might.

Not true. At any point a shap can refuse to serve you for any reason. Just because something is priced incorrectly DOES NOT mean they have to sell it at that price.

What if, you went into a shop, saw a plasma TV advertised for 99p, went to the till and they charged you £1000, you paid, and you then pointed out to them the advertised price?

They would fob it off as mispriced and keep the £1000.

Essentially you cannot make a trader sell anything to you if they don't want to. When goods are displayed in a shop, a catalogue or an advertisement, this is called an 'invitation to treat'. This means that it is an invitation for the consumer to make an offer to the shop to buy the goods, and it is up to the shop whether or not they want to accept that offer.

The "offer" is often the correct advertised price.

However the shop might have committed a criminal offence. This is because the Consumer Protection Act 1987 says that traders must not display misleading prices. You could report this to Trading Standards who may investigate the matter, however if this was a 'one-off' genuine mistake they would be unlikely to take any action

    From Trading Standards.

I always thought there was a subtle difference between goods priced up in a store, and advertised prices?

If an item has been advertised at a wrongly low price, they have to honour that price. But if it's just wrongly low in the store itself, then they don't.

But Rocko's right, a trader doesn't have to sell you anything, at any price, if they don't want to.

I'm sure I remember something about Tesco having some mis-priced dvd recorders on the shelf in one of their stores - 15 instead of 150, or something. A customer spotted it and went to buy one - Tesco said it was an error, but the bloke wasn't having any of it and started kicking off. So they sold it to him for 15 as "a goodwill gesture".

But then he went back to the shelf and loaded up a trolley with all the mis-priced stock of them, to buy them all at 15. Tesco then promptly advised him to push off.

They don't have to honour the price. It's an "Invitation to Treat" which means that the point at which the contract is effective is when you offer the money and they accept it. And due to Dell's T&C's they're allowed to recind on their acception of your offer due to their double confirmation system!

I've ordered one, but we'll see what happens!

That is true - any retail store can refuse to sell you an item, however they must then remove the item from sale at the price they refused to take. (which, if there was the 1000 TV for 50p, I am guessing they would.)

Yes that's what I heard, if they refused to sell it at the incorrect price, then the item must be removed from the shop floor and cannot be sold for a 24 hour period!

    Got this from Dell

    Subject: Iomega Order Number: 20845702
    Dear Customer,

We are very sorry we've had an error in our systems, and the product you thought you were ordering was wrongly described on our website. The product code and price of your order related to a completely different product, and was incorrectly linked to the description of the Iomega Hard Disc Drive you requested. In fact, this is a discontinued product and is no longer in stock.

Due to this, your Iomega Order Number: 20845702 has been cancelled. Within the next 5 working days any pre-authorisation on your credit/debit card will be cancelled and we will refund to your card any money already collected.

place your order for a different Hard Disc Drive, please go to www.dell.com or talk to your sales agent.
We are sorry for the inconvenience that this error has caused, and thank you again for choosing Dell.

Under their terms and conditions they reserve the right to change prices and things with out notice and for that they can just cancel the items and dont have to sell them to you at that price.

Defo they never let anything go for free normally, at work they have taken us out for meals a few times and when we orderd a 400K SAN they screwed up and forgot what they had orderd and we ended up with 500Ks worth of stuff which was cool.
