Dear All

I am a serving member of the RAF, as are probably a few others on here (Army and RN too) and I would like to think that if I was injured in the line of duty that my family would be able to visit me.

Well some people have decided that they shouldnt be allowed, and it makes my blood boil!!!

Please read below, and take a minute to sign the petition.

Thanks

Dear All,

Just had this sent to me and feel it's really worth putting your name to. Please read and follow your conscience and pass on to your contacts.

Hi everyone, just thought I'd bring this to your attention. But for luck or the grace of God many of us could be in Headley Court. It seems the inhabitants of Surrey don't think much of injured soldiers "lowering" the tone of their area. So please get onto the Government site and vote for this to go ahead. SSAFA are buying a house close to Headley Court so that the relatives of the wounded and injured servicemen and women being treated there will have somewhere to stay, making it easier to visit and support them through their recovery. Unfortunately, around 100 local residents have submitted strong objections (See Daily Mail excerpt below) The planning application can be read at http://www.molevalley.gov.uk, as can the ludicrous objections submitted by some local residents - please take the time to write your own Letter of Representation, there may well be a time when you or a loved one needs to use Headley Court

Please, please, please sign the petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Headley/ - it really will only take a few minutes. A campaign website has been launched here: http://www.36grayslane.co.uk - This link has only been live for a couple of days and is not yet complete, please put it in your favourites and check back on it. PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU CAN. WE ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO MAKE A STAND. THANK YOU ALL!

From the Daily Mail:

The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, which has applied to the local council to to make some alterations at the property, including installing a wheelchair ramp, had been hoping for no objections. After all, Headley Court had been part of the area for more than 60 years. But residents apparently do mind. They have flooded the council with almost 100 letters of protest, raising every conceivable objection to the new property being used to house families visiting soldiers. They claimed 'additional noise' and 'huge amount of additional traffic' would ruin the peace of the private lane and warned that the value of their multi-million-pound properties would plummet. The families 'would not be welcome', they said, and their arrival could 'destroy the character' of the area. One resident even objected on security grounds, claiming the house could become a terrorist target, while another suggested wheelchairs would present a fire hazard. Planners at Mole Valley District Council will consider the case on August 1 but last night serving soldiers made their views clear.

One Army officer recently returned from Iraq told the Mail:

"They make me sick. It's just staggeringly selfish. Perhaps these people would care to come out to the field hospital in Basra and tell some young soldier having his leg amputated after a [bomb] attack exactly why his family isn't worthy to rub shoulders with this bunch in their Surrey village. Who do they think they are? Do they have the slightest clue about the sacrifices-young soldiers make on their behalf every day? Shame on them."

SSAFA spokesman Athol Hendry said: "These people should be ashamed of themselves. This level of hostility is incredibly disappointing and frankly astonishing. If you've just got back from risking your life in Iraq, you've lost two legs and you learn your young family are not welcome near the hospital where you're being treated - what kind of a message is that?"

When the Mail tried to speak to residents, none would be quoted

Edit:
Please forum members this is hugely important to us serving members. I'd like to think that if I end up at headley court for treatment my folks could come and visit me without having to pay for a local hotel

Signed.

Come on, if you are reading the thread - sign the petition.

ive signed........as a former soldier i know how important this is, typical of this of the times we now live in,

years ago you would have been proud to know a serviceman and their family if they had been injured serving/defending there country.

bring back national service then these sort of selfish people would possibly have seen things from a different angle

rant over ........

It really annoys me... these guys and girls basically give up their lives to protect the rest of us, and this is how they, and their families are thanked. A bunch of NIMBY's who want the comfort of the best military force in the world standing on the wall, but then do something like this, and try and stop the very people who are protecting them from any kind of help and comfort they deserve in a time when things go wrong.

Selfish does not come near to describing these actions.

It makes me sick.

Rant over.

Thanks so far guys (I'm going to afghanistan in 2 months so this is a big deal for me!)

There's many more members out there though.

Good luck mate, where you based?

Done and dusted!:icon_thumright:

I think it's disgusting that young men and women risk their lives for all of us and a small minority treat them in such a way after their own personal lives have been quite possibly ruined forever.

Talk about kicking someone when they're down!:motz:

Osnabruck in das germany :icon_thumright:

Most squaddies I speak to hate Britain now. Nearly all of us joined at 16 for less than minimum wage and have served abroad without arguement. Yet we have to endure what we do, for not great pay, whilst covering for the firemen who already earn more for doing less and then we see on the news everyday that tax payers money is wasted.....

Actually I'm too tired and I'm sure you don't all want to hear it!

A sad reflection on what those Nation hating, fvcked up, commie ba$stard, nu labour traitors have done to this Great Country..........!! I despise them all........

Petion signed, with pleasure.

PS: Have you noticed how most of the names seem to be from the 'indigenous' population...?? I don't see a great deal of support form our 'enriching' ethnic communities.......... why is that I wonder?

Paw-print submitted!

I'm surprised to see a few old muckers names on there.

This issue is very important, as I know from personal experience of being in a Military Hospital for a long period of time, and the very real difficulties of loved ones getting to see you.

These NIMBY ba$tards should all be shipped to Bagdad town centre, issued union flag overalls, and left to their own devices. We'll then arrange to collect the "survivors" in 6 months time!

Im sure the cheap housing, cracking pension, end of service lump sum, endless hours of playing garage football, long extended morning, afternoon and tea time NAAFI breaks, unlimited amounts of cheap booze in the mess, constant days of stagging on in the Guardhouse sharing porn with your mates while the German blue guards watch the gate, tax free cars, LOA and excellent training which will guarantee you a job in the private sector when you leave (even loggies can go and drive for Tesco earning 30k a year) will, in some way, make up for people occasionally shooting at you...:icon_thumright:

Also being innoculated for every tropical disease under then sun will save you a fortune when you go abroad...most local GP's charge £120 quid for Yellow Fever jab!!!!!

Yeah some of us are a bit more busy than that mate. Some of us have done a tour a year for the last 5. And I've had three early knock offs on a Friday in 3 years. No sports afternoons. I'm a stripey so no guard porn of course. Yes cheap beer and all the other great mess entitleties. Big wow. LOA which doesn't in any way cover the cost of phone calls or ferries to the UK. Excellent training which generally doesn't give any recognised qualifications. 30k for driving trucks, great that's something to look forward to, for the minority that can get it.

But after all that I love my job and haven't disputed that.

Army life and its pros and cons wasn't my point in the first place. Most guys I speak to hate Britain because of what it has become. We pride ourselves on being British and fighting for our glorious country, but in reality being self proclaimed British is verging on racism apparently. And actually we're fighting for the US and the war against the lack of oil. And the general public know it. And although most back us up as people, they don't back up the reasons why we're there. Understandably. AND whilst we're away doing these things, the country is allowing an influx of people who are somehow entitled to benefits without working for them. Even though if we went to their coutries we wouldn't recieve anything like the same in return. And not only that but we have to hear from people who were born in our country who have decided they want to either come and fight against us away in Iraq or Afghanistan or they just pray to god that we all come home in a body bag. But yet these people continue to evade the law because there is a lack of evidence to prove that what they're saying is actually wrong. Can you see our frustration?

So, in the case of Headly Court, to have this small possibility of a bit a help when the chips are down taken away, due to selfishness and greed, is absolutely outrageous.

I will continue to work my **** off for this country which I love with my heart. I will expect forgiveness if I find hatred for those that stand in the way of the values we all follow and respect.

I spent time in Headley Court after breaking my neck, and so realise the importance of this. Signed with pleasure.

Signed,

another example of how our forces are being sh*t on!.

Signed!!! make the changes anyway permission or not!!

Not the lot I have work with...

I would agree with everything you have said 101%, but dont knock being in the Forces, compared to civvy street where most employers treat their staff with contempt its a pretty decent career and lots of people get an easy ride. (ok, probably not yourself, but the tax free cars and fuel coupons must soften the blow somewhat...)

Most of the biggest moaners I have ever encountered are in the same boat as you, signed up in their teens and never had a taste of the 'real world' where you get shafted with unpaid overtime and bonuses missed due to companies moving the goalposts halfway through the financial year, for all its faults life in the Forces is preferable to working for ********'r'us.

Whats Osnatraz like for a night out then?

Join the RAF, its great :) well my job is, but Im not sat in a Chinnok or Herc landing in Kandahar etc. The RAF its getting worse though in all honesty.

Glad we're getting the signatures guys, keep it up.

Good to see that they have permission to go ahead

The whole point of what I've been talking about was knocking britain and a minority who make life harder for us.

But rant over anyway

Depends what you want. If you want to go to bars full of squaddies then you'll like it. If you want some nice cools bars with the locals it's great. But we're banned from nearly every club in the city. Squaddies just ruin it for themselves.

signed!

Cant beleive some people! Who the hell would want to stand in the way of this?!

BBC news says this has been approved for a go ahead! Good to hear
