They used to be everywhere and I can't think of the last time I saw one. Are old Fords really that fragile and rusted away in a scrappy somewhere?
Still plenty of Mk1 GTi's around, but all it's so called wannabe competition seems to have disappeared along with R5 GT-turbo's.

There is a couple by me but thats it as you say probably laid up in scrapyards

well they were made of chicken mesh and filler! I know what you mean though, just try and find a clean series 1 custom RS they are rare cars now! i would have thought the majority of them would have been written off through being stolen and crashed or rotted to death by now, they were notorious for chassis rot and structural problems with the bulkheads were they not! wish i had one!

I was talking to someone about the same thing the other day Renault 5 turbo's used to be everywhere as were Xr's, havent seen a Williams Clio for ages. Mind you have you seen the price Mk1 and 2 Escorts are going for now!!!! try to get hold of workable 2 door shell for diy hobbyist money is near impossible these days, then if you do and you need panels....... anywhere between £200 to £400 quid for front wings etc I've scrapped better in the past than people are now asking grand plus for!!!! Wish I had known back then.

I actually looked on Ebay for fiesta XR2's the other week, a minter was going at just over three grand with about twenty bids!!!

Anyone remember the MK1 Fiesta Supersport???

Yeah my brother had one silver with a mad amount of decals (origional ford) down sides, I go to two of three Ford shows (ones that support older marks) a year see a hand full there not many though.

Do i remember them having big carbs and sounding the nuts back in the day?

My mk2 Xr2 didnt fly too well!!!!! it was only about 4 yrs old lost back end went through about 80ft of hedge from N/s across to the O/s up and over a bank, did get about 100ft into ploughed field though!! Would have driven home too quite tough for small car repaired fine, fun car back then.

I always fancied a Fiesta RS 1800.

Very bad image nowadays though.

My mate has a mint S1 Escort RST Custom in his garage, hiding under a cover. He said he will probably keep it forever, but if someone waved £6K under his nose, i think he would let it go.

They are deffinately rare now, and so are the old pug 205 and 309 gti's, can't remember the last time i saw one of them, its all saxos these days lol!

I know its not quite the same, But tonight whilst out for a Chinky an MG Maestro drove past whilst I waited, anyone remember these shopping trollies... had to have a second take to be sure, but yes, there it was in the rust...sorry "Flesh" for all to see... haven't seen one of them in Gawd knows how long...

The MG Maestro's will of all rotted by now, but I do remember those things being quite rapid in the day. They were almost fast enough to keep up with its depreciation but not quite.

The R5 GTT's surely would have rotted too. A mate of mine had a R5 Gordini turbo, does nyone remember those??? It was shot to bits back then with all the wiring totally knackered....but boy was it quick.

I loved my old XR3i though, it must have been ovr 10 years ago when I got rid of it, but a guy in the next village got one at the same time and I see him driving his regularly. Its his only car too.

Depends from what angle you're looking at..The "Recovering" they referred to was all the junk put on her/in her:lmfao: :jester:

Anyone remember the MK1 Renault Gordinis with the Mid Engine? a mate of mine still has one locked up in a garage, but its in bits and is a bit of a "Long Term" Restortation...

Awesome cars!!! A guy who works in the body shop next my office has one and brings it out every now and then. HIDEOUS interior but fantastic car.:icon_thumright:

Guy i know , just selved out 6.5k for a absultily mint mk4 escort RS Turbo , its concors condition , think its done the rounds ,around the ford shows and won a lot of silver ,
Personaly i like it BUT would never part with that amount of cash for a ford! ,hes also got a MK1 RS Mexico witch is nice but no where near the condition of the MK4 !
My soft spot for fords was/is MK2 RS2000 (2.1 pinto engine) with all the toys , now i would part with good cash for that !

Bad choice of words.

I'm sure he didn't mean to offend, Ming.

Correct, It was a "common" term used up here for a meal from the local takeaway no offence was intended..describes food not personal or other wise.

Is Chinky offensive? It's not derogatory in anyway, just a shortening of Chinese. It's in the ****** dictionary ***, get over it.
It's only insulting when used with other derogatory insults, which would still be insulting if "chinky" was substituted for "Chinese"
This is where political correctness gets off the scale and ends up having a worse effect on discrimination than anything positive.
I guess if I say I'm going for an Indian and actually end up in a Bangladeshi restaurant, that's insulting as well?
Anyway big can of worms (which we're probably not even allowed to discuss anymore as it might offend some poor sensitive soul), anyone got a tin opener?

That's unlike you to be controversial Andy. :)

Stolen - yes.... recovered - no
rofl so tru, that was after 2 months of it being stolen aswell :S

Only wanted to keep the private plate, but the police had scraped the vehicle (includes the plate apperently :S). luckily got it refunded through the local council authority where it was found :)

Yer, love the truck trans poking out the back, minus the 18's Hocks mind :(

"the BBC Broadcasting Standards Commission held in 2002 that when the word chinky is used as the name of a type of restaurant or meal, rather than as an adjective applied to a person or group of people, the word carries no racialist connotation"
Controversial? Hardly, just common sense, which I guess is getting more controversial these days.

I bet you've been researching that for the last hour!

Love it.

I actually saw one of these on the road a few weeks ago on the A34 - Shirley.

There is an absolutely immaculate Turbo2 in my village. It is beautiful
I had an immaculate R5T for 10 years, I sold it to my brother 2 years ago who went on to sell it to a chav, I think it now exists as a coke can! :blownose:

I think most of Britains Ford XRs and the like are in Rhyl!
