Here's a simple bit of maths to get your brain working in the morning.

Do this in your head (believe me, you wont need a calculator).

1,000 + 40 + 1,000 + 30 + 1,000 + 20 + 1,000 + 10 = ?

Did we all get to 5,000?

Now have a go on a calculator.
 
err 4100? 40 plus 30 plus 20 plus 10 equals 100.

But i do see what you mean:whistle2:
 
Ask some bean counters to do it reading it out as it's written. Not many people have got it right in my office this morning.
 
to be fair mate you must work with some treacles then!

I was told this wehn i was about 12, got 5000 then but my maths these days is stronger! haha ;)

Well if you got told it last week i'm not surprised you haven't fallen for it again.
 
The 'trick' is that when you get up to 100 with the smaller numbers a lot of people accidentally add on another 1000 as well. ;)

1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005, 1006, 1007, 1008, 1009, 1010, 1011...

Come on guys, someone give me the answer this is going to take ages! :drag: :shrug: :lazy:
 
1000+40+1000+30+1000+20+1000+10 = (1000+1000+1000+1000) +(40+30+20+10)
(1000+1000+1000+1000) + (40+30+20+10) = (4000) + (100)

Did fool me the first time tho.
