What's happened to our user ID's

On the 'old' site, my logon user id was jsylvester, but my userID on the site (i.e. what was visible) was jcs356. On the new site, the jcs356 bit has disappeared? How do I get it back. I've still got all my PM's etc. etc. so I haven't re-registered. Any idea what's happened? I'd really prefer not to have my full name on the forum.
