The Canary Islands are named after the wild dogs that used to live there i am sure. Had an island tour there a few years ago and thats what the guide said. Common misconception that its about little birds.

Well the question asks what are the Canary Islands in the Pacific Ocean called so I think you will find the Canary's in the Atlantic were indeed named after Dogs, but im unsure what the canary's in the pacific are called as they are yet to be found. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
 
Good point never realised the ocean bit. Deffo in the Atalantic. Unless the pacific ones are where Tracey Island is and that way we will never find them.

(For those who are too young to remember Tracy Island is where the Thunderbirds lived.)
