SE Handsfree Bluetooth Car Kit

Hi all,

I've upgraded my ancient Nokia to a nice shiney new SE T610 which is blessed with BlueTooth, so I'm thinking about getting a handsfree car kit fitted to my trusty MY01 S3.

As I'm a bit handy with a screwdriver, I'm thinking about getting the SE Bluetooth Car Kit and installing it myself (save a few quid paying someone else to do it)

Has anyone got one of these on their S3? Does it work OK with the an Audi Headunit? I have a Concert Radio/Cassette Headunit, which I'm pretty sure has some connectors round the back for fitting; however it's a trip to my local Audi Dealer to get the unit released if I want a a looksee round the back first.

I'm rather keen to get this done ASAP, as I reckon there'll be a rush on these car-kits when the new legislation on using Mobile Phones whilst driving takes effect in December.

IMNSHO, £135 for a hands-free kit is a good investment vs points on my license and fine /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I've tried the Bluetooth headsets, but they're a bit cumbersome for my liking and awkward to wear with sunglasses. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Snap. I have a T610 - great isn't it. But like you, I can't decide on which Bluetooth accessory to get.

I can't decide between these three....

Simple hand-free, but not the ear mounting things...

All good in their own right, but just can't decide.

Simple hands-free: will be usable anywhere, but will it work with voice dialing?

Pama plugNgo: can attach to windscreen, so phone is visible and within hands reach at eye level. But will need to share cig lighter socket with radar detector

Newlink: simple, and similar to a car kit I had for my nokia but without the wires. But doesn't charge the phone and will need to share cig lighter.

Help! arrrrgh!

I reckon the official car kits are far too expensive. And with the solutions above you don't need your dashboard taking apart, which will probably result in [more] rattles.

I'm not too keen on the ciggie-lighter bolt-ons. I live in Bristol and park my car in the street so I'd have to hide everything away everytime I left the car, else some y00f will cause serveral hunderd quids worth of damage trying to break in to steal £50's worth of gadget.

From my perspective, £135 on a discrete device that won't attract unwanted attention is warrented. I guess the people who make these kits thought about this when they set thier price point /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I posted in the A3/S3 forum as I was looking for advice / comments from other A3/S3 owners who'd fitted hands-free kits themselves.

I agree that it's an invitation for the Rattle-Gremlins to make an appearance if I start dismantling the dashboard, but I've already had half of it apart when I fitted an after-market MiniDisc Changer in the boot and ran the data/audio cables through to the Concert Headunit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyhoo, after getting over the Nokia User Interface withdrawl symptoms, I've come to love my new T610. They really are cracking phones, even if the display is virtually unusable in strong sunlight.

I've spent a couple of days trawling the internet and have found several really good websites that provide free polyphonic (aka MIDI !!!) ring tones and graphics. This one is probably the best -> http://lasyk.addr.com/
