I am trying to get him to take it to the RR day at Star this weekend but we shall see.

Hi paul , nice car mate , just tell him to watch the now the gritters are out spreading salt and we all know how good fords are at rusting lol
only joking mate , friend has one as well , stunning looking cars still and that 10+ years on

Umm... dare I ask how much he paid for it? It's nice but I think I'd rather have something else for my money...

Like my mate’s car above, it weighs about as much as a leaf and now has around 400BHP from a V8 that sounds rather good.

I will own a TVR in the next few years - lottery win or not!

Na Barry has TVR's in at his garage all the time and i have been well put off them now.

Build quality sucks big time!!

I would never buy one now unless the newer ones are better.

Dont get me wrong nice looking cars and sound amazing.

He paid £13k for it. Was advertised for £16k.

Is gonna be mag features soon.

Total bargain. Harvey gibbs rebuilt and modded engine done 2k miles ago.

Has like all the carbon bits, the AP brakes, dry sump all the alloy tanks, plus lots and lots of extras and other mods.

Has 74k miles on the clock to.

Well lots of my friends have more reliable TVRs than my S3, if they are looked after other than the engine problems (which car be sorted in some cases) they are simple and reliable, build quality is sometimes a problem but again my S3 isn't perfect and looking at this forum there are lots of build quality issues with Audis and they have a quality control dept!

Ah I know I'm mad but after spending a lot of times with the owners through my friend above they can't be beaten for experience!

Na i was not on about the engines. Just like the interior trim gets worn very easily and the soft top hood gets tatty.

I know they are fun cars but i am more a guy who is into other cars at the mo.

I just think the Escort is a great car still looks superb todays and love the bulges etc.

Just like i love clio williams front arches etc and the RS4 with its big arches.

Just think the looks super cool.

If is see a nice cerbra TVR though i still go over for a look. Look really smart with the tuscan alloys done anthracite.

Used to love those Cossies!!

To think it had 227 BHP and 4WD out of the box over 10 years ago - what a machine!!

The 'picnic table' on the back made it the ultimate Chav mobile!!

I used to have a Ford once but in the end, i couldnt cope anymore so i had to sell it.

It made so much noise during the rusting away, it was keeping the neighborhood up!

hmmmm cossie /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif a friend of mine had an imperial blue one, turbo went so a 6k engine overhaul followed, he got it up to 400+bhp but then the wife made him sell it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif cossies are great, but only if you got a spare few grand sat in the bank to keep them on the road

am i missing something, what's with the italian paint job on the engine??

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it's supposed to be Irish, not Italian.

A mate of mine has an original Cossie and used to have a TVR Griffith. After being out in both, there's just no comparison. I am sure that a 400bhp Cossie would be extremely quick, but the Griff is just so much more of an event it gets my vote every time.

After hearing you talk about your car first hand, that exactly what I thought when you posted the griff pic!

Well it's certainly not been a pain free ownership, however I do still love the car especially now the steering is sorted.

Did you ever get rid of the other wheels?

Yep, and due to get the new ones refurbed in the next month (finally!).

However, I'm having those new car thoughts again!

I'm considering selling the S3 and getting an Old Volvo S40 for work and motorways and a westfield for fun! Just a thought at the moment, do you have an experience with the latter? (your piccy)

NSD = Village Idiot = LMFAO

Sorry mate, just noticed your fab title

Good to hear, where you getting them refurbed?

I've been lucky enough to drive caterhams quite a bit on trackdays and bar none (exculding proper single seaters) they offer the best driving experience but you just can't have one as your only car full stop (unless you're even more unhinged than me). I nearly bought one instead of the S3, but realised it WAS going to kill me, I'd be enjoying oversteer a bit too much on a country lane near my house and end up dead... so I got the S3.

I think I've realised the way forward for me is to keep the S3 for ever and buy somewhere to keep a second car and a TVR / nutty car of some sort.

Westfields are great value, a mate had a pinto engined one that was very quick and raw experience but not to my taste I'd want a more modern engine (that didn't need the carbs setting up all the time) in one. I'd love to build one from a rolling chassis but you need space and time.

PS... I still think an S2 elise 111r must be about the best compromise for track day fun and day to day usablilty (I remember you saying you nearly bought an early elise), they also seem to be offering very good finance deals on new ones... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/idea.gif

Not far off the same thoughts ..if you are into fords they are brillant but i am not ....horrible interior dash ...everything rattles and then rusts........amazed it has not got a strutbrace fitted with that power i bet it flexes real bad the engines are good but for the rest well........this is just me of course personal thoughts /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah i think he is going to see if the strut brace fits off his sierra cosworth if not i think he will no doubt buy one.

He wants to do a few more bits and bobs.

I cant believe more of you are not into this car maybe its a young guy thing but i think its such a great car and am very jealous.

Or maybe people just haven't driven one...

They place a 'badge' higher up their pecking order than a proper drivers car.

I'd have an Escort Cossie anyday...I looked for one for about a year, a good few years ago...but couldn't find a nice enough one that I could afford.
Great cars...

You drive a frumpy new shape A3...and you are commenting on looks?
Bravo! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The sad thing is...for people who are allegedly car enthusiasts, the looks or badge it's wearing should have little effect of how the car drives or the feelings it brings out.

Sure, the Escort Cossie is cheap inside, and a Ford...but what a car to drive!

Hahahaha /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/fuck_you.gif

I'm sure it's amazing to drive but I don't like the look of it... just my opinion and obviously some others too!

Look no disrespect Ess but…but you live in Scotland...

Now a Cossie may well be appealing to some with the “stick on boy racer body kit” and the “killer-whale air brake”, sorry I mean spoiler but down in the south a car like that is as Chav as you can get.

Lets highlight Essex for example; White stilettos, white Ford Escorts 1.1l and authentic Cosworth parts from their local scrap yard. I say authentic, as that’s where most Cosworths are, in the scrap yard because they are crap, and we all know crap rhymes with scrap so I rest my case.

I see a Cossie and I’m just waiting for some spotty Burberry wearing scumbag chav / chavette to get out of it so I can club him/her to death!

Now for the car it's self...

Its a ford no matter how you cut it, yes a powerful Ford thanks to Mr Cosworth but the looks are an important factor in the purchase of a car; so if it rattles or looks like its been made in a Tomy or Fisher price factory I’m not gonna buy it...OK!

As for speed / performance - There are tastier cars with just as much power which are far more appealing to the eye, sorry gone back to the looks department again haven’t I...well what can I say it's a Ford. It' s crap.

I think that's a bit far NSD, I do appritiate the car as a good drivers car and probably an Icon of it's time (still is I guess) but I would never spend my own money on one as there are loads of other cars I would rather have even for 13-15k especially as I'm guessing with 400bhp it wouldn't be reliable enough to be a daily driver.

it still has 400HP / tonne, which is supercar territory.

but yes, it does look like an escort.

Sorry that bit isn't relivant either, you can't consider modded cars in the same way. I could modify a 15year old micra to have 400bhp per tonne but what would be the f/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gifing point.

I could also buy an elise and stick an s2000 engine with a super changer on it and hand this guy his **** on a plate around a track and it'd be reliable but again that's not the point is it.

I'm considering a volvo for an everyday car, so practicality etc. won't be an issue. An Elise would be ideal, but I've decided not to spend any extra on what the S3 is worth. I think I could get a Zetec or Vauxhall (prefferred choice) engined Westfield and the Volvo for the price the S3 is worth (in theory!!!). A caterham would be preffered, but they're about double the cost of the equivalent westfield. A westfield just seems to good value not to have one! Insurance is very cheap too.

I'm getting the wheels refurbed by a local guy that will come round and do them over two days. £60 a corner, however, I did find these people. Nearer you that are about half the price! But i'd have to leave my car there, I shouldn't have sold my wheels first lol! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

On the Cossie debate, I'd have one. But wether i'd ever spend my own money on a car that old etc. aI'm not too sure. Had a look at a Renault Clio 182 the other day, having read so much about them, but looking at the interior, I don't think it's a nice enough place for me to spend my time.

It will probably be fairly reliable if its been done right. Bare in mind when the engine was designed it had nearly 300bhp and ford had cosworth detune it to make it more insurable. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

In its day, the Escort Cossie was awesome IMHO.

Maybe not now, as I say it's like 12 years old, but way back when, not much on the road could turn as many heads and have as much pound for pound fun as the Escort Cossie.

An icon in so many ways - and even Clarkson loved it!!!

I wouldn't buy one now though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

More or less my thinking, maybe as a 4th or 5th car in my multi millionaire garage!

Awesome machine to drive, I had a go in a 350bhp example, it was stripped out, with Repsol stickers plastered all over it. It goes as fast as it looks, but not a car I would buy.
