Was this a good deal? Or at least ok

Just after a few opinions please.

I recently had my BMW up for sale for £2900, I would of taken. £2700 realistically.

I was contacted by a guy who wanted to buy it but had to sell his s3 to fund it and asked if I would consider a p/x. I quite fancied an s3 after I sold my b6 s4 as I missed the turbo so we spoke about it and agreed a straight swap.

It's a 2002 dolphin grey with 124k and a full service history and a folder of receipts, had a major service in Jan and four new Goodyear
Tyres , has black un marked leather seats and drives perfectly. 3 months tax and 9 months mot.

I feel like I got a fair deal, what do you think? I'm not selling the car, I'm going to keep it as it's great fun and looks superb.

    Cheers

Well that's true, I have had a few Bmw's and few audis and I'm going to stick with the audis from now on.

    It was a 530i sport

Looks a tidy example from the exterior, as long as you're happy then who cares really?

If you want a real answer concerning the finance side of things- then it's getting harder and harder to pick up a decent well running face lift model S3 where the bodywork hasn't been neglected for under £3k, and the Dolphin Grey is also a very nice colour IMO.

Personally I'd get the car serviced (possibly change the oil pick up pipe also), hook it up to VCDS to scan for any faults and if it all comes back good then you're onto a winner :D

You got plans for any mods on her?

Judging by your joined date I guess you was an active member with your S4? So back btw

Wow, I considered shopping my S3 for a BMW 530i sport back in the day! Is that how much they are worth now?

530i BMW have fallen rapidly in price recently, it was actually a very limited
Edition one with only 150 made but that said the market for a 12 year old auto fuel guzzler is still quite small.

The car had a major service in Feb, including brake fluid change, pollen filter, plugs, oil flush, smoke test and four new good year tyres.

In December it had a clutch switch, haldex oil, haldex filter, a breather pipe , new dipstick tube , a Honda s2000 air filter and a dyno run.

So I'm hoping mechanically it had been looked after and cared for . It feels that way, the only negative points for the body are stone chips on the bumper but that is it.

    Cheers
    Matt

    :[/QUOTE]

I have ordered a forge 007 and plan to have a 200cel cat and 3inch system fitted. The previous owner said it had been remapped but there is a dyno run after it's service and it had the s2000 filter fitted and it made 229bhp so I can't see that it has been , so I'll get it on the dyno to see if it has been done since and if not get it done

Other than that not much really, ill get the wheels refurbed I think

It might have made 229bhp if it was a bad map or a tired turbo ............. Lots of factors.

I have just been in touch with the previous owner who says the map was generic and done after he had the service/ dyno done so now I'll have to get it either remapped on a road or get it on a dyno to see what it's doing. So it seems it made 229 with just a large air filter. Seems a bold claim

I have dyno plots showing 280 from just an induction and map on my old facelift S3,ideally you want a before and after plot on the same dyno,so many factors that can alter or be altered to make an impact on the test results.
