Mad Focus

[ QUOTE ]
Nice project, but it's still a Focus at the end of the day...

[/ QUOTE ]

Not much Focus left,lol
More like a life size model car with that lift off shell. Today a Focus, tomorrow Golf, lol

Yeah i agree you could call it anything matters what shell you put on in.....give its due though the guys has put the hours in to and with that engine and space frame chassis it will go like /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif of a shuffle

crazy nut. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

looks like good fun.

best he gets those directional tyres on the right wheel before taking out though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Big respect to that bloke... Just getting the frame correct for the shell is a mission! Let alone the engine and drivetrain... Will be a corker when done!

Good to see there is still nutters out there willing to take it to the limit. Shame he's putting a focus shell on it though

i just hope some one bought him a fishing rod for christmas so that he has something more exciting to do with his life why o why o why?

what.jpg

I think the whole team deserve huge amounts of respect for doing that, I would have thought a different shell would have been a good idea, just not sure what... maybe an old Lada body or something... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif

[ QUOTE ]
Not a shame... Its a good lookin car i think!

[/ QUOTE ]

Would prefer it with an A3/S3 shell. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

it might just be able to keep up with the S3's now...just /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Big respect, thats a big job to take on, I'm very curious to see what it will be like when its done.

I wonder if I can get a plastic S3 shell to fit onto my missus's clio, its sooo embarrasing!
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

wonder if it will ever look like more than a cobbled together go-kart. It will be some job to get it all finished like a production car. Hey maybe some people like visible welds and such.

I reckon this guy will do it properly... And it will look like a WRC.

Think that's a bit unfair, the welding looks spot on, with a spaceframe that stiff (and I'm guessing a lot lighter than either a focus or a skyline) that will probably out handle and go a hell of a lot faster than pretty much anything on the road!

Like rich says, it'll be a WRC more than a comfortable Audi!

Beaker we are the minnority here, if my neighbour was building that i would erect the biggest fence in the world ever, perhaps the bloke doing it has got a pair of glasses with a picture of a focus in each lense so that when he finishes it he can stand back put the glasses on and see a ford focus, while his mates stand there going WTF is that, until they try his glasses on.
Id like to see the end product and if it looks good ill say it does but at the moment i think the bloke has been eating dodgy christmas cake laced with halucinating drugs

Thats a bit harsh i think. Its nowhere near complete, and he only chucked the shell on to see if it fitted... Which, clearly it doesn...quite, hence the reason he is looking into the WRC kit. Going on the craftsmanship of the frame, and general build so far, i think it will be a real cracker when its done. Have faith!

Rich

Will we get a update on here RichA3?
If it looks a stunner at the end then ill admit, but at moment i cant see the point of doing it, I suppose its his hobby

How do you mean?

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

Theres no point in doing anything like this! The point is, that he wants to do it, so is...There needs be no point other than the enjoyment of doing such a thing, and the satisfaction with the end project.

Rich

...and the immense sense of personal achievement.

I really don't understand some of the comments on this one, this was a mates last wish that it was finished by the sound of it, the chassis may not look pretty but should be one hell of a drive, it's got more power than you can shake a stick at and the guy is going to try and raise some money for charity as well as have boat loads of fun in the process!

I don't think it's ever intended to look like a focus on the inside, I'm guessing race seats, harnesses etc as per a WRC as what would be the point in adding all that weight etc. The only thing I would change is the shell, and I've got no idea what for.

Bainsboy - what are you expecting it to be in the end, it's going to be a focus shell and bodykit (to cover the bigger bits) with skyline running gear, custom chassis and not much else?

My hat off to this man and his mate he's doing it for! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bravo.gif

I'll wait for the end product to pass judgement. Its a way to pass some time I guess and if you're into that kind of thing then go for it. Its also admirable that hes doing something for a good cause.

It all sounds very ambitious though and I have doubts about it coming together without looking like its been knocked up in a garage. As for the general craftsmanship so far, who am I to knock it. Its really the finish of the exterior that will make it look well done or not. Have no doubt it will be a performance monster, assuming its been put together in a manner that can cope with it.

It will be one hell of an achievement if it works thats for sure. In the meantime I hope his neighbours get that fence!

Just because i dont agree with you lot doesnt make me the son of the devil, which is a shame really as i bet the parties are good.
As for rich quoting me on whats the point, i also cant see what the point of train spotting is but like i posted if its the blokes hobby fair do, just not my cup of tea., will some one post the update on here.
All im saying is it looks more like the lorry in the beverly hillbillies at the moment and like ive also said if it looks good at the end i will say so.

Have i missed something as couple of people have said his doing it for good causes and doing it for one of his mates, ive checked but cant see it mentioned, if he is then ill zip it.

Well said!

[/ QUOTE ]
I'll second that, there's a lot to be said for crackpot blokes tinkering away in sheds, they're probably responsible for some of mankind's greatest technological advances.

OK; this Focus GTR won't improve the lives of the entire world's population, but it's a mould-breaker all the same, and as mentioned if he's enjoying himself and making some money for charity into the bargain too, fair play to him.

Just my 2ps'

Regards,

Rob.

Seriously though, manufacturers spend millions developing and testing cars to try and hone performance and handling. This all looks a bit hit and miss. I'm pretty sure it will actually go, but how well and for how long?

Yeah...They spend millions making cars for everyday people, as daily drivers... The RS/S/Sports versions being the standard car, with some upgraded parts... By definition, this will NEVER be as fit for 'purpose' as a car designed for it. cars BUILT for racing, WILL be better suited to the purpose, which is to go as fast as it can around corners, with the minimum weight and maximum strength... there need be no compromises in comfort. I'd put money on this car going VERY well, and lasting a long time! Its a strong engine, strong transmission, a strong frame...No reason whatsoever for it not to last!

I just dont get how you can look at it and say that it wont last long .etc. Im sure of you took the interior out and removed the bodyshell of your audi, you'd think it was going to fall arapt in 10 minutes!

ever heard of a guy called Ferrucio Lamborghini? Mr Lamborghini, was disastisfied with his supercar and wanted to do something about it - so he did...yes granted I wouldn't put money on this guy with his passion for his hobby breaking the market of supercars today, however you see my point: He is doing something for himself and a good cause, because he believes he can.

If this fella made the car and it fell apart on the first run (which I doubt looking at the pics), then he can walk away whilst so many people can say 'told ya so'...at least he can say 'I DID so'. There are many things to be drawn out of the process - it's called learning. With this process of learning he can build better! Various people on this site have invested a LOT of money into their cars, and not always been satisfied with the result, yet tweaked back and used their experience to what I believe to be a great improvement (though I can't vouch - many others can).

Why are so many people negative about others, perhaps there should be less emphasis on putting up the fence, and more upon handing the guy a ratchet...

Just my opinion.

Rob /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The guy is not even trying to to make a car that lasts as well and is building it for fun and for trackdays etc.

I doubt it will be used for the family shop etc.

As for saying about trainspotting, i know which i would do or make that like to be able to do.

And saying its pointless and a waste of time. That means everything you enjoy is.

Goding to the football whats the point you can watch it on tv.

Buying a Audi when another cheaper make will be quite sufficient.

Cheers.

I'll give you that one! Though if I removed the interior and bodyshell of my Audi, I doubt there would be much left /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Guess we should just watch and see how it turns out.

So much porn on the internet and this man is souping up scaffolding poles by supergluing a focus shell on top of them, All i got to say is either his not married or his getting a lot of hot raunchy secs in doors when his finished sticking his car together

Sounds more likely that he is married to me.
