They talk about racing drivers, who follow the vehicle in front, and blindly follow it into an accident too..

Seems it applies to bikers too...

though they werent exactly driving on each others back wheels in the first pic, unless they were really moving..

I dont know the full story, i sure there must have been some nasty injuries, just am shocked at the scale of numbers who kept ploughing into it - its not exactly invisible
 
have just realised, picture one is shot at an entirely different time of day - if you look at the shadows you will see...

So its not an indication of how they were riding in the approach at all!
