Scargill and GREED screwed the miners! 35% wage increase Scargill was after, and that only 2-years after they'd been given a Scargill and subsidised GREED screwed the miners!

35% wage increase Scargill was after in 1979, and that only 2-years after they'd been given a substantial pay increase. While here in the UK, we were buying coal from Poland to make cheap electricity/power for the rest of the nation (the miners having free coal of course). We couldn't afford British coal due to it's overall cost, and subsidy.

Take care guys, there are some of us who were there in 1979 and remember the state of the country during the preceding years: winter of discontent, 3-day working week (with 3-day working wage), etc. And me an ex-miner (believe it or not), with a miners pension too...

There are TWO sides to every coin!

Oh, and as for being working class people; if you go out to work then you ARE a bl**dy working class. I've been fortunate to rise from underground work to the position of technical director, and believe me, I was bl**dy working class for 16-hours a day...

I think it is worth remembering that for most of us, owning an Audi would not have been possible before her time.

That may sound melodramatic, but it ain't far off the truth.

No, no; you're absolutely right; but we had started buying imported Renaults, Fiats, and Skoda's, etc; primarily because of the poor state of UK built motorcars e.g. from British Leyland. One bad lunch and the guys went missing for a week. I was there! And I was one of the few buying British, Triumphs, etc. Honest, forget the rhetoric, it was bad then and had to be fixed!

Putting aside any difference other Thatcher, I just have to marvel at the discipline and attention to detail of our Armed Forces, much depleted these days yet still maintain all the qualities that make them great.
