p155es me off the number of times i see a report like this and the police fall over themselves to say they weren't pursuing. So, what are we paying you for then?! if some scumbag steals a car and dies whilst being pursued, SFW? is there some implication that the scumbag wouldn't have been driiving like a tw@ and risking himself/others? because, every stolen car gets driven courteously and carefully, right?

still, another couple of scumbags dead. silver lining.

They have to consider the public's and their own safety at all times,if they feel its getting too dangerous they will back off.

This is true. I watched a police persuit of a car on TV the other day, and the guy being chased was doing 100+ in a 30 zone through residential areas and taking high risks, so the police backed off. They arrested the guy at his address the following day using the cars reg plate, so same result.

Another ridiculous quote from somebody who knows NOTHING about the job. Yes, stolen vehicles are driven recklessly, but add a chasing marked up Beemer/Volvo etc into the mix, and you can multiply the reckless factor by 10. Police Officers can't be held responsible for other peoples mens rea (make up your own jokes here), but they can be responsible and held responsible for their own, likewise the safety of firstly the public, then themselves and dare I say it, the scum being chased.

You are of course entitled to your opinion as is our freedom in this country (to a certain extent), but in the interests of healthy debate; I think your opinion is ball locks

I concur(see my previous statement) as my wifes cousins hubby is a firearms officer with Fife,as well as pursuit trained, and one of the first things drummed into them is "if you think it's unsafe DO NOT CONTINUE the pursuit!!! No-one will think any the worse of you."

The problem is in this day and age people are only too happy to blame the police. If a police car is pursuing a car it is very likely to drive in a more dangerous manner than if the police car wasn't there. I am a traffic officer myself and have been involved in pursuits, it is made clear that a pursuit should be called off if it is too dangerous and rightly so. I'd rather have someone get away than crash and kill someone, they will 'come again' as they say.

The other thing is the lack of protection for police drivers if something goes wrong. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think we should have carte blanch to drive how we like and not face prosecution however pursuing and driving on blues is dangerous and things can and do go wrong. A PC from Hampshire was involved in a pursuit with a stolen van and when it was reviewed by people in their offices they decided it was dangerous and he was later charged with dangerous driving. No one at the time thought it needed calling off (the control room etc) but he was charged. Not only that, they tried to charge the passenger in the police car with aiding and abetting dangerous driving! There was an interesting program about response drivers on TV the other night. Thankfully the CPS dropped the case against the passenger and the driver was found not guilty at court. Here is an article about it.

That is a bloody ridiculous deal, to be prosecuted for doing your job (i.e. chasing criminals) when nobody was even hurt in the course of that action. What next... arresting garbage men for releasing odours into the air when they empty your bins? It's politcal correctness gone mad, I tell you!

Several high performance Audi's have been stolen in recent months in Greater Manchester and although it can't be proven there is an outside chance that these two have been involved in this recent spate of thefts. There was a second back-up car involved in these incidents a high performance Vauxhall VXR was stolen from the cheetham hill area in Manchester in January and was used as the collect and drop vehicle for these muppets.
therefore there is at least one more person involved here, it's highly likely he will be arrested in time and live off the notoriety of his dead mates in strangeways.......
to reiterate my earlier posts, nobody wins here and I do hope common sense prevails for the pursuing traffic cops. 100 miles an hour or not, in a built up area; the acceleration of high performance Audi's get's you to 100 in seconds.
I will in time find out who these clowns where...... Good bloody riddance
With great power comes great responsibility.......

We had a problem with RS4s being nicked and used as 'get away' cars for various crimes. Needless to say they got away from our Traffic cars pretty easily!

We had 13 Escort Cosworths as Traffic cars back in the day. There wasn't much that got away from them. Having said that, we were never in a position of having to pursue something that had vastly superior power to the Cossy so it was never put to the test.

That was due to those scumbags in lotus carltons writing them off before they had time to be chased!

    +1 on all similar too.
Last night we had a red audi go past our house and the passenger was eyeing up my a6.

The car re-appeared again a couple of hrs later.

I am somewhat surprised that scum would be interested in such a big car 10 yrs old and auto for joy riding etc.....

I have cameras up at my house with infra red clearly visible.

Oh and a very big stick by the front door.
    Make my day guys. Lol

Ps I love the police when on the publics side,
