    Suppression or moderation?

Somebody clearly doesn't know the difference.

This place is as bad as SCN, and is going down hill fast. If somebody cannot even suggest independant testing of a self made product to one of the forum sponsors then I think you all need to have a long hard look at the way you run this forum.

Removing members from a discussion because it isn't going the way you want it to is a joke. It isn't moderation, it is sweeping it under the rug and controling the way people post.

So who removed me from the topic and why, own up and lets get it sorted.

    Rainbird likes this.

    Re: Suppression or moderation?

Surly your just going to get hit with the ban hammer, iv been removed from plenty of threads because of my inappropriate ways but never mind.

Just don't be a girl about it and wind your self up, it could be the way you say things, not everyone gets your point of view.

yeah I just don't want to see you get baned mate..

They can ban me then, I am not being suppressed injustly for telling the truth. And if that is the way ASN is choosing to operate then I don't want to be a part of it and will catch you guys on facebook.

It is not unjustly, you repeatedly have broken the rules and could have gone ages ago.
The pub thread is not invisible to us moderators yet some members think otherwise.
    Some of the rules

    (1) Personal abuse of other Audi-Sport.net members is not permitted. If you disagree with something another member says, by all means discuss the topic with them and use whatever facts and evidence you wish to support your views. Personal abuse/attacks only suggest that you cannot support your views in any other way. Behaviour of this type will not be tolerated. For the protection of all members we operate a simple and discreet post reporting system which, within a couple of clicks, notifies Administrators/Moderators to unsuitable content so that action can be taken.

    (2) Content in any form (text, images, audio/video) which is threatening, harassing, racist, pornographic or otherwise broadly obscene/offensive in any way is prohibited and will not be tolerated. Swearing is not permitted and in the majority of cases will be filtered automatically; attempts to circumvent this system may lead to restrictions on your account. The simple and discreet post reporting system mentioned in (1) above should also be used to alert Administrators/Moderators to prohibited content of this type.

I agree Jase, being passionate is one thing, but conveying it in a non controversial way that engages with other users is key to maintaining the quality of interaction on the forum.

As a side note, and we (the mods) don't expect you (the members) to be aware of this as it is happening behind the scenes, but our admin team are finally getting interaction from Audi UK who are becoming interested in what they can glean from clubs, forums etc. If they see that forum members behaving in an unrestrained / unsavory fashion they are not going to want to engage with us, and then any opportunities we might have to leverage or broker benefits for the forum members will be a missed opportunity.

I think what I find disconcerting is that people feel their personal freedoms are being eroded through moderated control; the fact is people like Jase, myself and the other 'blues' do what we do for free, not for any personal gain, and out of a common objective of maintaining standards for anyone of any age and disposition so the forum can be enjoyed universally. 99% of the members abide by the rules the majority of the time, but the minute we start to let standards slip, where does it end?

We want ASN to be up with the very best of Audi forums, and whilst there is always work to be done, our members standards are critical in helping achieve this!

The right to freedom of expression brings with it a responsibility to use it wisely.

So just so I understand this as it seems a little contradictive, Klappe is saying his posts were removed concerning suggesting a forum sponsor tests a self made product, but it was involving the pub thread which mostly is crap talk anyway, so what did I miss exactly?

Nige, nothing of consequence. It's not what was said more the way it was said I feel. It's more the straw that broke the camels back. The team can only stand so much and it was dealt with.

Problem with txt speach is there is no form of expression or tone. Peoples interpretations of things can vary massively.

But as you all know jardo can really be confrontational at times. Which unfortunately isn't how he is in real life.

Which is the best reason of all not to use it. After all, is there a another language anywhere that has such a rich and varied range of expression and tone as English?

Its not about control is it come on, its about respect for others, knowing its a public forum & acting appropriately, its not his, ours or anyone's personal playground to act like an ass is it, I'm confident he was given chances to change his ways, he didnt so he got canned, simple really & I'd expect the same if I acted in a manner unbecoming.

Oh I dunno, reading his posts in that thread it was very clear of his interpretations lmao.

Isnt that the problem though Karl, if he isnt like that in real life, why should he feel the need to act any different on a public forum, you wouldnt get away with the attitude in real life & much goes the same for public web based areas, I dont know the guy & I have nothing against him, but as someone who reads as do us all & knowing the mod team, they wouldnt of taken banning him litely as such, they're usually a very fair bunch.

I think it comes down to warnings.

IF, and it's a big IF; If Jardo was warned, by a moderator, or admin member, in an official way, be that via PM or an e-mail to his registered address, that his posting style would lead to removal from the forum, then by all means ban him, and feel justified in doing so.

If however, he was not given an official warning of sorts, explaining the potential consequences of his continued behavior, then someone needs to man up, accept that a mistake was made, and let him back on here ASAP.

Simply moderating bits out of his posts does not count as a warning. Perhaps a hint to most of us, but certainly not a clear warning of an impending suspension.

Just to set expectation Prawn, this situation is being looked into to understand the background and the best possible outcome. Thanks for your comments.

    Excellent, thanks Warren.

I know I'm his friend so I'm bound to be naturally bias, but on the flip side, I'm campaigning for his return DESPITE knowing better than most what a complete mong he is

Bring him back, on a lead (a short one). He'll either behave, or use it to hang himself. Either way the house wins in the end!

There's a part of me that thinks he should be careful what he wishes for (e.g. this thread). We're conscious that this is not a clear cut case, hence why it's under review in the 'back office'. Just wanted you to know it's not case closed / moved on etc.!

Official??? WTF? This isn't an employment tribunal. Come on Prawn, plenty of us have had our wrists slapped on here before and it was about time he got his fair share in many people's opinion. He should take it like a man and come back (if he's allowed) a changed Jardo simple as that.
