hi all havent connected the iPhone 4 to iTunes seen there is a software update i know when i updated to ios5 it was a living nightmare!!

whats the difference with this new update at present i have ios5

cheers

You will find that the latest apps run smoother on ios5, since most programmers have optimised their apps for us on the latest operating system. I was stuck on 4.1 for ages due to phone being JB'd, but once the apps started to jitter, I updated to 5.0.1 and got it JB'd a few weeks later. Not bothered with 5.1 though, my missus is on latest ios, not much difference for me to upgrade yet. ios6 is going to drop google maps, which I basically use the most, so I mite just stick with ios5 for the time being.

I wasn't going to update mine, as I'm looking into a jailbreak. Is it worth it?

You can jailbreak iOS5.1.1 it takes no more than 10mins and is a very simply jailbreak to do none of this putting it into dfu mode, just Conect to iTunes back up your phone then delete it back to a stock iPhone then jailbreak then restore using your backup job done. As for is it worth it then it depends on why you jailbreak your phone I do mine to run themes and stuff apple should have included within there iOS and just because I can that's the main one.

Have a look here for your jailbreak needs

I think I'll give it a go now then. I only want to jailbreak for the themes too really, a friend of mine had a monster energy theme and it looked so much better. I fancy getting Tom Tom too.

I have a working JB for 5.1.1, i waited purposely for this.

5.1.1 works fine for me, only thing i have noticed is that you can access the camera without having to 'slide to unlock'.

TomTom UK & Ireland is the best Satnav on the iPod phone IMO. Use it almost everyday!

I have been using copilot recently to see what one I preferred.

I was using Copilot before it suddenly stopped working, i had an appointment in Hull, i know how to get to Hull but could nnot find the correct street i wanted, no worries i thought, I've got Copilot on the old Ipod Phone, it wouldn't work.. Had to use ****ty google maps. Deleted Copilot later that day.

Try Tom Tom, you won't regret it.

Oh, forgot to add, which is possibly the biggest change! On ios5, you can update the phone using wifi, no need to plug into itunes again unless transferring music. It also features iCloud which basically backs up your phone in the middle of the night if wifi is connected!

thanks done it over wifi didnt even take that long, so far only noticed 1 new feature is when phone is in standby you press the home button you now just press it one and slide up to take a pic.... nice

I have had no problems jailbreaking my iPhone's I have done both mine and my wife's 4s's and I done my 3GS before I upgraded to the 4s and I also done my brother inlaws iPhone 4 all using www.greenpoison.com I have had no problems I just followed the instructions on there for jailbreaking

Same here, jailbreaking is completely safe nowadays. A few years back it was a little more sketchy.

the new 5.1.1 is a delta update so doesnt wipe the iphone and restore... just updates ontop of the basic iOS
this is why it can be done OTA (over the Air)

the new jailbreak is also very easy and now no longer needs the device to be put into dfu mode.
one things i would suggest is if you guys are upgrading your pre-jailbroken iphones to the newest os and dont want to spend hours setting it up again just download PKGbackup and then then use that to backup all your JB apps to dropbox, then once you have done the iOS update download PKGbackup again and then do the restore and leave it running. once its done all your old JB apps will be there with a small amount of personal tweaking needed to get it how it used to be before the update.

Jailbroke mine yesterday using greenpoison, awesome. Spent all day messing around with themes and fonts. I did forget to check my contacts were backed up though, so I lost them. Nevermind, everybody still has my number.
