GPS speed camera detector - Ł80 Toad Inforad

Now that I've just done my bit of asvertising, I need to ask whether anyone has used these or heard or read about them.
I know they don't have an LCD display, but I want to mount whatever detector I get hidden from view and hard wired in, so that doesn't bother me.

Any opinions? Can get it for Ł76 from maplin as good old student discount!!!

If you don't want it to bother you AJ then why get one?
Seriously it's only gonna be as good as the database and if that's a freebie then forget it. Trusting your licence to shareware info that needs to be uptodate & reliable is a false economy.

sorry didn't explain very well!!

This Ł80 one supposedly saves money by not having an LC Display. The lack of a display doesn't bother me as I would get an external antenna, run a few wires from the status LEDs of the unit to a dash LED and hide the thing from view of theiving scum!

The first year is included and then Ł24 per year or Ł49 lifetime. It doesn't shown camera spots, only fixed cameras. I didn't know wether to get one for Ł75?

aj be careful mate - as andy says its often a false sense of security. I know 2 blokes who have removed their detectors as they got points despite (or even because of) having them.

Your best bet is to think like a copper and imagine where you would hide a camera or mobile unit. This approach works well - I had 15 points on 2 different licences 4 years ago, but since then I've had no more points in approx 250,000 miles.

yeah methinks ur probably right jungle! 250k and no points is pretty good!!!
the biggest problem is mobile cameras, ie the drive to liverpool most people do 45 in the 30 zone, but i've seen them out a few times. Maybe the best thing is just to go slower than the other lane!
I don't really speed either. normally do about 75mph on motorway and 35mph in 30 limits and 40 in 40 limits. just thought when i go somewhere i've not been it would be useful to know where the cameras are.

Back to the laser jammer again then.
It works (so it's illegal) but then so is speeding, so what can you do?

Just thought i would share this as its kinda relevent
Mate in his scooby racing down a main street in glasgow(city center) against other mate in a cossi escort flew passed police(80mph+) sitting in side street (ps this is at 2 am) . police caught the cossi but the scooby was gone! no jammer, no camera detetecor , nothing would have stopped them being caught ! the MK 1 eyeball is still one of the best detetctors

Ps ,VERY JAMMY sod in the cossie was let off with a warning cause they couldnt get a speed reading in the short space till they caught them at the traffic lights

I think that story proves being very lucky is the best way to keep your licence, unfortunately my luck has been discontinued (and it didn't work very well when I had it), and there's no upgrade. Bloody Microsoft!
