Thread: what is a screamer pipe? :s

well as the title says^^^ what is a screamer pipe? is it just a decat? really like the noise here a link. vw passat 1.8t 20v turbo k04 hybrid external wastegate screamer pipe - YouTube

Sounds like a poorly dump valve to me!

Its the outlet on an external wastegate setup!

dont do it! on boost it does sound nice, how ever on idle sounds like a hole in your exhaust

im struggling to understand how a ko4 (internal gate) has a screamer pipe??

the down pipe off the turbo comes as 2 pipes, 1 being your normal exhaust exit, the other comes off the waste-gate and is opened up about 6" down from the flange and basicaly every time your waste gate open's all the exhaust gases just come straight out tjhe problem is, that the divider between the waste gate and exhaust exit is not a complete seal, hence why it sounds like a blown exhaust, can also play havoc with you lambda sensors!
