watching charles clark right now and once again he is laughable /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif and in fact paxman did have a good wee chuckle to himself at the end of interview.

but just so everybody is aware - if labour get in- basic and top rates of tax wont change as per manifesto (like 2001) but dont be surprised if national insurance goes up (like post 2001). can anyone explain to me the difference to my back pocket? - are we really that stupid? i guess so!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah I know, but does it really matter who we actually vote in, as they're all the same these days.

The thing that bugs me most is using money from one sector to fund another, i.e. tax on petrol / diesel to fund health care, art projects, asylum seekers etc, etc. rather than repair the bl**dy potholed roads. If they taxed people according to each sector fairly, then it would be transparent where the money was going, and I for one would be happier. Because that way we would only pay for what WE use.

Does this seem fair, or am I finally loosing the plot !

Interesting that you think that it doesn't matter who we actually vote in. if you are thinking that i guess a few others are thinking the same.
but if you are thinking of not voting - could i urge you to atleast turn up and spoil your ballot. this rather than indicating apathy (not turning up) indicates that you do care but the political system does not work for you as it is. and maybe it will open up the debate for proportional representation.

i agree with a more transparent system of funding - hopefully the freedom on information act will 'encourage' future govts to think twice how they spend our money.

cigarettes / alcohol taxes to the nhs. its that simple. the biggest burden on the nhs to fund the nhs.

asylum seeker - again the tory's spin and labours climate of fear. there are fake asylum seekers and there are genuine asylum seekers. fakes i agree should not be here. but for genuine seekers. I can only speak for scotland. We make a profit from world bank and eu on asylum seekers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif and again the percentage of overall immmigrants who are geniune asylum seekers is very low. plus the contribution they give to inner city schools (again i can only speak about glasgow) where the standards have risen with asylum seekers cant be quantified. i honestly think there are far far bigger fish to fry.

but i think your point that you pay for only the things you use isnt a goer if you value the nhs, free education for all etc.

one of the biggest thing that annoys me is the x million (i read 7 on bbc's site today) people who are on benefit and the majority are long termers. so when labour (the socialist party remember) say there are less unemployment the burden on the tax payer is actually higher now than it was previously.

I'd like to echo that point from Ian, if you don't consider any of the parties worth voting for,
please don't vote for the apathetic party or settle for the one that always wins in your constituency.
(because your vote doesn't matter in the scale of things)

Sorry all for the confusion. I indeed will vote and always have done. My point was more that the difference between labour and conservative, contrary to what they say is closer than ever. And my point about only paying for what you use was more about transparency and did not exclude funding the NHS.
 
The trouble with "joe public" is that nobody sticks together and cant be bother becuase "they never listen to us" attitude, which i think ****** well stinks, ppl should be out protesting/blockading whatever they feel they should do to show ALL these "so called" govenment's we aint having it no more!!

Me and my GF earn a comfortable salarys, both pay back a student loan payment, have a large mortgage and waste all our spare money paying for our cars and going out on the lash???

you should be asking why in england and wales they dont get it free personal care rather than begrudging us!!
