Part of the reason why I still have the Cav is I couldn't find anything to replace it with - 4x4, was about (genuine) 250bhp when I got it, 6 speed, leather, lots of eleccy toys etc. Almost went impreza sti route, TF I didn't !

I've been driving since 1986. Sh*t that's 17 years.

1. Alfa Sud 1.5 sport (old V reg) in 1986, sills rusted to pieces but totally superb.
2. 1.6 beige cortina (old T reg) in 1987. From the sublime to the ridiculous. A real bird puller with soft furry seats.
3. My mother's metro (1.1 new D reg) in 1988 - which took out a leaping deer one night and was written off.
4. MkII Golf GTI 8v - B reg - strawberry red - in 1989.
5. MkII Golf GTI 8v - F reg - Helios Blue - in 1991
6. Astra 1.6 brand new in '92 - company car.
7. Mk II Golf GTI 16v - H reg - tornado red - in 1994
8. Astra 1.8 sport in 1999 - brand new company car. Thrashed.
9. Audi S3 - new company car in 2002. Almost as lovely as my new born son.

This is what I have had from the age of 16 - 25.

F reg Nova 1.3 SR
J reg Nova 1.4 SR
M reg Pug 106 XSI (1.6 version, excellant car)
R reg Pug 106 GTI
R reg Nissan 200 SX
M reg Escort Cosworth Lux (Small Turbo)
H reg Nova 1.2 (used as 2nd car)
L reg Nissan Micra (used as 2nd car, still got this one)
V reg EVO 6 (best car I will ever have for balls out performance)
51 reg Audi S3 210 Bhp

All of these cars were modded in the performance department. So it's just a matter of time till the S3 gets it.

This is from 1996:

'F' Citreon AX GT (my first car)
'R' 306 Peugeot diesel (company)
'R' Mondeo 1.8 LX (company)
quite a few in-bewteen e.g. Rover 420, Peugeot 406 boring boring boring (company)
'T' Renault Laguna 1.8 Sport (company)
'T' Mondeo 1.8 GLX (company)
'Y' Peugeot 206 GTi (my first new car)
'51' Audi S3 (grrrrr)
'03' Honda S2000 (company)

I have driven sooo many other cars in-between most of the company cars, that I can't remember most of them!

Here goes:
1. 1st car...a 1986 Nova 1.0 base model ..added spotlights and noisy exhaust! Bought in 1989 after passing my test.

2. 1990 Nova 1.4 SR - bought new and kept for over 6 years...tuned everything, Group A rear beam, discs all round, remote reservoir coilovers, 15" wheels, Blydenstein racing 1.6 engine on twin 40s (140 BHP / 130 lb-ft) close ratio gear kit and ZF LSD...absolutely mental...did most of the work myself, the car was featured in CCC mag in 1996 and won 7th place in the best converted car of the year 1997!
An absolute beast...sold it in 1997 when Novas were obtainable by the Max Power tossers!
Awesome car round Knockhill!

3. Got sensible and bought a Golf GTI 2.0 8v from my dad...added an AmD rechip, coilovers, 17" BBS RX alloys, Remus exhaust...good reliable car.
No good round Knockhill!

4. Missed the Nova's lunacy...so passed my test and bought a Fireblade! 1993 RRP model (the last of the twin headlights with the more mental engine!)...to be continued...
As if passing your test and straight onto a fireblade wasn't lunacy enough...

5. Still missed the trackday feel of the Nova, so bought a 1986 shed of a Fiesta XR2.
Fully stripped and caged, new bottom end, ported head, twin 40s, Emerald phase 3 race cam, Avo shocks / springs...kevlay bucket seats & harnesses etc...
Back on form at Knockhill! Yee-ha!

6. Sold the Golf and bought a new 1999 Honda Integra Type-R..which is the best car I have ever driven!..added Mugen anti roll bars, JDM 16" wheels, Mugen exhaust / JDM cat, Eibach springs, JDM dampers, Mardigras Motorsport suspension settings, uprated brakes...what a tool!
Setting personal bests every day at Knockhill...on slicks!

Crashed the Fireblade...almost killing myself, sold the XR2 to finance Fireblade pt2:
Re-built the 'blade with a single side swing arm, 6 pot front calipers, 320mm discs, Ohlins dampers, Harris everything, carbon bodywork, Factory Pro Racing engine parts, Ohlins 916 style steering damper, PVM magnesium wheels (17" front), Dragon Corsa's and a full Red Bull race replica paintjob...awesomw! Just too much for me!

7th. Wet day + mud on the road + trackday set up ITR = write off. Bye bye ITR.
Bye bye Fireblade too...too much bike for too little riding ability!
Cash insurance cheque, add to fireblade cash and hello new 2001 Audi S3 quattro....decided that I would leave this standard (Ha!) I bought a smashed 17000 mile Corrado VR6 as a track car project...ongoing.

8th, Got the chance of my dad's mint Mk3 Golf GTI 16v Anniversary model...at a decent price...so bought it too.

So there I am....currently with 3 cars:

A 1993 Corrado VR6 track car / Hillclimb / Spring project...in progress, BVH, Large bore TB, Schrick manifold etc...ongoing...probably re-shell it into a 3 dr Golf sometime.

A 2001 Audi S3...the same car that was going to be left standard...274.5BHP / 332 lb-ft later, with 18" BBS RS IIs, lowered and uprated suspension, FMIC, brake upgrades, Milltek exhaust / cats, aggressive suspension settings etc...

A 1996 Mk3 Golf GTI 16v Anniversary...AmD re-chip, parts sitting for major engine upgrade (just not enough time), Koni coilovers, Eibach anti roll bars, EBC brakes, modified airbox, Milltek exhaust etc...

I guess I'm just a serial modifier...and as such should probably be locked up for wasting vast sums of money...from the humble origin of a 1.0 base model Nova...to 3 of the best VAG cars of their type ever built...

I wish I was sensible! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/idea.gif

I also wish my dad would stop buying interesting cars and offering them to me cheap when he's done with them!

I still miss the Honda ITR...come to think of it, I still miss the Nova!

So, that's 8 cars and 1 bike in 15 years...

How often do you go to Knockhill Glen? What sort of times were you getting in your cars?

[/ QUOTE ]

I've never driven on the revised circuit, which I'm led to believe it about 2-3 seconds a lap quicker than the old...
But I was getting consistant 1min 10sec / maybe late 1 min 9secs in the old Nova on 008Rs (195/50/15)

The Honda was around 1min 10sec / 1 min 9secs standard...but down to 1 min 6 ish on full slicks (Bridgestone 180/580/15 mid compound)

It took me 5 years to get steady 1 min 10 ish in the Nova...and over a year on slicks (4 or 5 trackdays a year) to get down to consistant 1 min 6 ish in the Honda.

[ QUOTE ]

I've done 1 private track session there and was probably getting 65 second lap times - the digi camera only records for a minute and it nearly got a lap.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you are doing 1 min 5 ish on your first time out...that is an exceptionally quick time!
Either that, or my timing gear is crap!

[ QUOTE ]

I've noticed Knockhill do Hot Marques days - you need a car worth over £10k to get on - keeps the neds away - need to go and see how bad the driving is sometime.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hot marques days are fine...no problems at all...I used to do loads of them.
It's the hot Hatch days that are populated by tossers in sheds of crap with barely an MOT...no way I'm mixing with them....especially with no insurance!

1) Holden Gemini TD (first car, rebuilt the engine @ home)

I really must disagree with point 4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif, I assume it was the 2.0 8V version not the 1.8T. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Cheers,

Christian

No, it was the 1.8T.

Had a failed water pump, cam tensiors, rattled badly, and only had about 55,000kms, the list of fixes just went on..

Poor car.. hated it.

You must have had a bad un' /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Mines been okay touch wood, apart from the obvious coilpacks but as we know that's in no way unique to the Golf.

It's got to have a new windscreen tomorrow, some git on the motorway chucked up a big stone that left a big dent in the glass, luckily it's a company car so I don't have to shell out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Won't have another Golf though, need something that handles as well as it goes next time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Cheers,

Christian

As ever, I'm late replying to these things /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here goes... (cars *owned* in 7 years)

B Cavalier SRi 1.8 (5 months) : I parked that car off road, learning that grippy direction tyres on the front and crap tyres on the back is a bad idea when it's raining. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif That car had snap handling as a result, I just wondered WTF was up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
(Car wasn't written off or anything, only a little damage, honest, but it had to go)

J Pug 309 Diesel (5 months) : Why did I ever buy that car!

N 306 XLTD (18 months) : Loved that car. Handled well, great MPG.

P 306 XLTD (3 months) : Pile of kack. Newer car, much worse.

S Saxo VTR (from new, 16 months) : Loved that car also, but it came to gravity defying end after I side swiped a post, flipped it and landed in the bushes. I was lucky...

T Xsara VTS (16 months) : First car I got on the German autobahn, indicated 149 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Couldn't take the build quality though, but loved the engine.

R Audi A4 (17 months) : First modded car. Chipped and Bilstein dampers. Hooked on Audi, but needed 4WD, hence...

52 S3 : Love it, love it, love it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

I've been driving since I was 7 years old! Aye my dads David Brown tractor!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Then moved onto stunt rolling any car a bunch of us could get for £10/£20 down our local dissused runway from 12 years old to 23 years old /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Got my licence at 17 (1987)
V reg. 1.1 Polo with mark I GTI alloys. Technically I wrote that off twice but it was 3rd party fire and bombs. So I became very adept at jig work etc.

B reg Ford Orion 1.6GL. Wrote that off (fully comp) hit a crash barrier at 80mph. That saved me from a dunk in the North sea! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/groovy.gif

B Reg Ford Orion 1.6i That was stollen and written off. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif

C Reg Mark III escort 1.6 Laser. That was a truly crap car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/vomit.gif The rear suspension chassis came through the floor from excessive stunt driving it rusted away to nothing! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif

A reg Mark III escort 1.6 Ghia. Good car gave it to my sister. My brother in law wrecked it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif

M reg Mazda MX6 2.5 V6 24V. 17" BBS RK wheels Not a bad car - great engine -just became too slow.

R Reg S4 Avant Imola yellow. AMD chip Hyperboost DV, RS4 suspension.

Next RS4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heart.gif if I can avoid buying a house next year /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dancing.gif

2. 1992 Pug 106 XSI, 100bhp + great handling, but noisey as hell at high speed and unconfortable for long haul, had 15" wheels fitted by moi. From '98-'00
3. 1996 BMW 318ti (140Bhp)I love this car for comfort and handling out of the box, but still had to fit AC schnitzer springs, and a nice subtle M-Tech spoiler. '99-Present
4. 1998 A3 T sometimes I love it, other times I hate it, Love the power (195bhp) and handling now thanks to Oettinger and Eibach, but hate the introduction of the new A3, the understeer, the interior and the fact I crashed it!

And out of those four cars the only one which didn't get damaged was the Maestro!!!! Pug and A3 were my fault, BMW was someone else the first time, mine the second time (But onl;y small scratch/dent) and third time it needed a new door 'cos some feckers broke into it!
