What the hells going on with the price of petrol /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

My local shell is the cheapest that i've seen in my area at 83p/ltr. The BP down the road is 85p and the shell in hammersmith was 86p. I'm sure I only paid 80p a couple of weeks ago.

No chance of me filling up with optimax - 91p/ltr. Ummm, I dont think so......

Dude,

I HAVE to fill up with optimax... i HAVE to pay 90p/litre. WHAT THE FU*K!!! I think another strike is necessary and i for one would back it. Its extautionate.

Rich

I noticed it on Sunday too, suddenly gone up, has the price of oil rocketed again or is this another government ploy, you know, where they say we are not putting up fuel tax now, but in 6 months when everyone's forgotten about the budget we will.

Kev.

the price of a barrel in America has shot up and we are paying the price for their fear. the local supermarket is selling it at 83.9ppl - same as I've just PAID for it myself, ho hum I wonder why my volume is dropping.

Ditto Rich - Dont think I HAVE to use Opti but I do want to continue to use it..... 91.4p/ltr - Sh!t.

Brink back Mr Scargill - "everyone out"

What's with the price of diesel aswell?, petrol@83.9ppl and derv@87.9ppl WTF? so much for having good fuel economy, you pay it back at the frickin pumps! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif As for the Optimax prices, I'm using my S3 sparingly, so even the local trips will have to be the Tdi!, only a good thrashing deserves wasting of Optimax, though it's not really wasted is it?/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah i stopped off for petrol the other day and it was 93p for BP ultimate i just put £15 in cos i was running really low. Thats is a rip off, think we need to start blocking the tankers again and with an election looming would be interesting!!!

I'm seeing 89p for just standard unleaded round me!!
And another thing, when the price of petrol goes up, optimax goes up in proportion with unleaded. But when the prices drop (rarely) Optimax doesn't! OR if it does, it's nowhere near as much as standard!

If Shell want us to use it so much, and spend all this money on advertising it, then they should keep the prices in line!

rant over.

53.78 brent crude at last on Nymex NY
has come off but of course forecourt is VERY slow in passing on the discounts....

its mainly down to the fact that alot of the oil reserves are thinking they are going to run out.. expect it to rise even more untill election..

then it will go down slightly with then a bigger rise around august....

get saving boys and girls for that mountain bike you always wanted when you were a kid.. haha....

Petrol costs are a joke, when I got the car I paied 79p per L of optimax.....not had to fill up for a bit but I know it is about 90p near me. Thank god I dont have to do many miles anymore!

Compare our prices to US. You can fill up for like $20 over there! I really don't understand why the UK prices are such a joke!

Like i said b4, why not boycott Shell and Texaco, just use BP only and see what happens, im sure after a month of bigg losess there bound to do something!! Bring on the strikes tho!!!!

First time my car has broken the £50 barrier, the yanks get a gallon for what we pay for a litre, unbelievable.
It's the same situation with cigarettes, they justify the tax cause they want us to stop using cars/cigarettes, but if we did, the system would crumble overnight as they rely on the income to keep it going. I wonder if you can import Optimax like you can fags?
I thought all you oil burners were converting to chip fat & white spirit (as seen on Top Gear)?

Can't we boycott BP and Texaco stations, and only fill up at Shell /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

This sums it up nicely!!

Very Good Yaseen.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ok.gif

LPG is no cheaper than unleaded, it just receives a tax consession. As soon as enough people have converted then watch that price climb.
I'm old enough to remember when diesel used to be a lot cheaper than 4star, not anymore!

93p for optimax in kent where i live, i say put it up up up, everyone on push bikes so i can get good clear run to work second thoughts everyone start walking as bikes are a nuisance

Thats well pricey. Most garages in the North East are about 90.9 (91p but its seen as a bargain like things that ar £9.99 as opposed to £10, great logic!!) but there is one hidden away that is 90p per litre on Optimax.

I just wish one of the opposing parties would cotton on and in their manifesto instead of all the snipes at other party's policies, come out and say there will be a 10% drop in taxation against petrol if you vote for us. I think that'll probably win the election.

Funny 'cos I heard a Shell spokesman on the radio today defending soaring prices saying that only 0.5% of their profits comes from UK petrol sales whilst they make a £1 million pound a day profit. No doubt because Labour take the rest. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/10_1_114.gif

When I've got yhe money together I'm emigrating to New Zealand, petrol is a third of the price, there is 10% of the population on two islands three times the size of Britian which means...... you guessed it plenty of open unclutered roads to fuilly appreciate your driving skills.... oh and decent scenery too.

I might seriously have to downgrade to 95RON for the forseeable future /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

create an of import tax on F*uc*ing immigrants then petrol would be about 5p concidering how many there are in this crap country.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is why we are in the situation we are in. the tory's are saying immigration is a problem. And idiots swallow it up whole.

okay who are the biggest number of immigrants to uK?
Ireland
Spain
France
US / Canada
India.
How much do they contribute to UK economy in taxes.output over £3billion.

France are actually /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif off that we nick their labour and blame us for their decling economy.

Sounds like Micheal Howard/JPO school of immigration - base it on religion or colour of skin. Remembering that Howard is only 3rd generation himself.

Stop fekking believing the tory/labour/whoever bullcrap. they will tell you anything you want to hear to make you feel that the current state of the uk is not our or their fault, but a few eastern europeans.

Watch newsnight or channel 4 news once in a while and make an informed decision may 5th.

Reason for high oil prices? Not solely to do with reserves running out - although US are building up reserves so they are less exposed to the middle east - but more to do with climate of fear since the US started the CRUSADE in the middle east.

May 5th vote informed. I am up in scotland and wont be voting for the 3 majors, but if labour get in dont be surprised if taxes go up (happened last time) and you are moaning about petrol prices closing in on 95p come 2006.

Sorry if this is rantish but my business is getting killed by national minimum wage. come october i will have to lay off 3 staff to stay afloat so not in a good mood as they worked with me for 10years each!

I know Scotland is not the place to be anyway, my folks back up there 9 years ago and they can't wait to find somewhere in NE England to get away, sad state of affairs.

As for petrol Tony Blair ain't so bothered when his old pal G.W. is stocking up on crude, so long as the 'relationship' remains in tact, hence why this swift and silent increase in petrol prices in the last two weeks hasn't got any media coverage.

The solution, stick to one petrol retailer and one party and see the wind of change when the general public who these ponced up beaurocrats are supposed to represent actually make an impression. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/soap.gif

In the meantime anyone used sunflower oil in a V8 as a substitute?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

[ QUOTE ]
Yeah about half of them work hard in this country but the rest just ponce. I see it every day, oh and come over here for free medical treatment as well year Good one.

[/ QUOTE ]

the reason they ponce is because they have no choice!! they are not allowed to work!!

why not give them temporary NI numbers and make them contribute rather than just locking them up at a cost to us?

also what if the govt actually cracked down on illegal working and benefit fraud too? the govt knows about illegal immigrants working but its a very cheap form of (slave) labour which they still turn a blind eye to. despite cockle pickers drowning etc. Calling Labour a socialist party is joke!!

In glasgow at least the worldbank and eu provide plenty of funding to house asylum seeker etc. but why not make them work? or at least give them the abilty to work and pay taxes? and only them are they priveledge to health care? Same for immigrants - you cant just come for free treatment - you or your family have to contribute to the economy first or as well!

as for housing and taking jobs - thats rubbish. i wouldnt set foot in some of the areas that they put asylum seekers. so they are taking spaces in houses that nobody else wants. and working jobs that nobody else wants. plus many are skilled. without immigrants the NHS would grind to a halt as all the Uk born nurses seem to be in nZ and aus (although having tripped there i 'm not complaining /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

anyway - 91p for optimax!! Fek me, i'd better trade in a for 2.5tdi quattro A4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well where I live, unleaded is around 87.9ppl, and I put optimax in at the weekend and it was around 94ppl. Diesel is at 90.9p. Probably this expensive due to there being no decent roads into Norfolk.

[ QUOTE ]
Ok bit of a side track BUT wot is the cheapest u can remeber unleaded at??????
i think i can remeber it at 52.9p!!!!!!!!!!!!! happy days !

[/ QUOTE ]

49p per gallon! when my dad filled up the V dub beetle......

to add to the annoyance of fuel tax ...

first law of thermodynamics - you can't create or destroy energy. so all the energy in the fuel is transferred to the road not so! An engine is prob about 30% efficient based on chemical energy in and kinetic energy out. 70% heats it up! That's why your engine gets hot due to friction.

And the c**ts who run this country etiher government or oil companies are keeping their friction-less bearings etc on the shelf.

So we're being taxed for polluting whereas the government ain't doing jack about releasing these patents!

I can't believe that no party are campaigning for less petrol. suppose it's less work for them to raise money if they are voted in.

i remember when i was a kid at the fuel pumps, the old number dials for the fuel and prices, the fuel wizzed round quicker than the price did, now look at them now!!! the other way round

We need a strike 3 days b4 the election, we might get a response from one of the gov' at least

Just out of curiosity... Is the expected MPG when using optimax better than regular? Reason I ask is because i filled up on optimax, and the tanks seems to be going further. Will have to do further tests to make sure though.

I get 100 miles extra to a tank of Optimax, 1.8T quattro

If I fill up with normal 95RON I get 500 miles showing on my fuel computer, if I fill up with 98 I get 600 somtimes 610

So i filled up last night with Optimax... 93p/litre! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/10_1_114.gif OUCH. Just under £50 to fill it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/soap.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/comeon.gif

Does it really make that much of a difference /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I always used to use optimax on my other cars but didn't really notice any difference in mpg or performance so i switched to regular. Haven't tried it on the S3 though.

Thats cus you drive a S3, on a 1.8T on the motorway I get around 50-100 miles extra, always 100 on the fuel computer.

But I only do motorway driving, around town I would say 20-30miles more per tank

Driving on the motorway constantly i will nearly double my milage to 600 miles per tank instead of the usual 300 around the city and so on

True, but like him or loath him, he has probably paid more income tax and NI than anyone else on this forum, if an immigrant wants to come to the UK, adjust to OUR way of life and pay taxes then fair play to them, if they want to scrounge off the social which we have all paid into, bring the whole family over to letch off the NHS and generally contribute nothing, then Howard has a fair point...

I wont be voting for anyone, live abroad so too much hassle...
