    Classic Insurance Policies.

Does anyone know a company who will cover a 24yr old for a cosmetically modified Golf Mk2 GTI 8v on a classic insurance policy?

Quite amusing this, the car is not old enough a few companies said, so I had to check the logbook, and it's registered as a J reg in 1992, the car is not 20 years old for another 7 weeks! lol, so we might have to wait til next year to get cover.

Anyways, most companies are not quoting due to him being under 25, or the car not being 'standard' spec, and he's dying to drive the thing! He had quote ranging from £1700-4500 with zero NCB on a standard policy.

Elephant won't do classic cover Nilz. The two companies I use for my speedster are Footman James or Adrian Flux.

Just had a look on Flux's website and they say:
Low premiums on classic cars from as little as 5 years old.
Modified Classics – any modifications to your covered on a like for like basis.

Not quite sure how you can qualify a 5 year old car as a classic? Unless they mean something like a Morgan?

Oh, and you probably know this already but just in case, you don't build NCB on a classic policy.

I have a classic policy on my 1989 Mk2 16v, but I'm well over 25 and the car is over 20 yrs old.

Footman James says no, not actually tried AF, as they wasn't competitive when I tried to get a quote for mine. Paul Best will only insure standard cars. Lancaster won't even quote.... I've tried them all.

My cossie is insured with RH, at a mindblowing £152 a year F/C £4k agreed value and salvage retention. Worth a try, give them a ring.

    I use Lancaster, I have a classic policy on my MX-5, and thats a 1997 "R"...

I have used a friendly local brokers near me that my Dad also uses to insure his cars (inclusing 2 classics) and they offer reasonable classic policies, they are called Peter Best Insurance (only reason I didn't use them this time is because Lancaster beat their quote by quite a bit)
