can shock absorbers be transported by plane? Audi dealer told me no

Bit of an aodd one but I was going to order shock absorbers from Isaac Agnews in Belfast so my dad could send them and a few other bits n bobs over to me in Finland by courier but the parts guy (who was absolutely spot on) told me that I can't send shocks by air as they contain compressed gas. GSF told me it would be fine though since they're sealed units and not sending them by plane is a bit over cautious.
Does anyone have any advice? I'd rather avoid the local Finnish parts prices if at all possible.

    cheers

I would contact a local freight forwarder and ask if there are restrictions on compressed gas in air freight.

I cant see a problem transporting them by air, it won't affect the shocks themselves, it's just if the courier is happy have compressed goods on board.

yeah that's what I thought, thanks gents. I phoned DHL, who said no. So I think the key here is not to tell them

my suspension came from FK in germany and they were definately flown over as i followed the package on the online tracker on the couriers (DPD) website, as i made laugh that it took one day to get from germany via airpot then over to east midlands airport, but then took 3 days to get from there to me lol

Until your shiny new shocks go bang and the strut makes a hole in the plane...

There is, and will be a reason why the couriers won't take compressed goods. I'd take a hint at it being due to the dangers of compressed items at altitude.

If they say no and you lie to them, you're an idiot. Find a courier who is happy to take them.

Lol, well if they can't take the slightly added pressure of being at altitude, they definitely won't be any good when the car sits on them, so you may as well take that plane down.

But I'm sure there is a certain volume of gas required before it become officially compressed goods, so ring around and I'm sure somebody will have the knowledge to help

Totally off topic but that's where my car came from Isaac Agnews originally and then made it all the way to Yorkshire to me, just thought i'd share that piece of useless information.

I do like a good dose of random in the mornings

actually I didn't want to pay a premium for dangerous goods and express delivery so ended up buying locally instead and will just try to take the cost on the chin. I didn't manage to get a clear story collectively from different couriers but that could be down to school leavers working for the courier companies with bugger all idea what a shock absorber is not to mention the dangers of compressed gas at altitude
