    I think Wayne Rooney..

... will be kicking himself now. He's certainly paying the price for a moments indiscretion!

A three match ban is not enough. Im sure they will appeal against it, but hopefully it will still stand.

Ditto, but then the England rugby team haven't been shining examples of upstanding citizens abroad. Give people too much money and too much fame and they inevitably become *****!

He has put our chances at risk with his own stupidity. If he cannot play the group games in the competition, then he should be left at home. We need to set an example, his talent should not be allowed to forgive his outrageous behaviour.

If you see what he did, it wasn't a bad tackle, he actually committed assault on another footballer and just gets a 3 match ban. If you had kicked someone like that, you would be charged with assault.

Teach him a lesson, set an example, ban him for playing for 1 whole year with NO pay and watch his behaviour improve suddenly!

Capello should definitely not take him to Euro2012 to teach him a lesson.

Oh, and has anyone checked if his dad and his mates had a bet on for an England player being sent off in the xx minute???

Unusual to find a consensus on such a controversial point, but like everyone who has posted to date, I agree that he should not be in the squad for Euro 2012.

As sad as it is, Rooney is probably England's only chance of doing well at the Euros.
With him it's going to be hard, without him its going to be even harder.

So from a total footballing perspective there is NO WAY he can not be taken, even if it is only for the games after the group stage.
From any other perspective then he should not be taken.

And let's be fair to Rooney, aside from this outburst, his behavour on the field has been pretty good for a long time. He's no longer the 'hot head' in every game that he used to be.

    My view:

It's all about the football... so take him to the Euros, warts and all (even though I don't like him).

I think the 3 game ban is too long. He didn't lash out a kick it was more of a tap.
Rooney hasn't really shown up at a major tournament anyway so we'll cope without him for the group stages.

He was playing, if you can call it that.
But if he can show this season's form when the the euros come around, which he is more than capable of, then he'll be a welcomed addition.

Love your optimism. We all think all the players will play as they do for their own clubs each week, but every time they are in big comps for England their form disappears! Last Euros and last World Cup, both so disappointing events in so many ways.

I really dont like Rooney but if he is able to keep form then he may be our only chance.

He isn't going to be needed, we will doubtless struggle to get through the group stages anyway.

He sets a bad example, twice he has been red carded playing for his country, he is a striker, not a defender, so that is not a good statistic. Last year he was mouthing obscenities down the camera lens. He got banned for that too.

Years ago to play for your country was a lifetime achievement and an honour......today its second fiddle to trainers and razor deals....and the odd woman...

Grow the foook up man, your not only letting yourself down, your letting the COUNTRY down ............AGAIN!!.....If you look through is career he has not done much in the national team at all, and there are talented players who would be willing to do anything to get in the squad,
Whos to blame................ him? or the people who are prepared to pay them thousands of pounds a week to play a GAME...? you decide...

I do actually like Rooney when hes on form, but boy can he spit out his dummy, and international players see what i see, so why not go for the send off?

Its nothing to do with Rooney getting sent off, but this video was linked to the above video.
Its Ian Holloway talking about when Wayne Rooney wanted to leave Man Utd last year.

Problem is Ads, regardless of the feckless pr1cks Neanderthal actions, there's an army of mouth breathers out there who idolise and imitate these dicks on and off the field, hence why it's better if he can demonstrate just a few role model behaviours. I don't expect him to act like a single dimensional corporate bull****ting spineless invertebrate, but at the same time if he could try and not present the English as a bunch of amoebic thugs it would make a refreshing change!

I hate everything ManUre too (being a Liverpool fan) and i'm surprising myself that i'm sticking up for Rooney. But as much as I hate to admit it, on his game he is by far the best that england have got, and worth the risk IMO.
If the old Liverpool form of Stevie G was possible then I'd feel ok about Rooney not going to the Euros, but lets face it, Gerrard never has and never will produce the goods for England.

And as for tomorrow...... COME ON YOU REDMEN!!!!

I do see your point but the problem is a lot to do with us too; the English public and the media. The way we react to these things is way OTT.
Again, look at the video, look at what he has done, and now think about the coverage it has received and the opinions that fly around. Its just a BIG overreaction IMO.
Another example..... look at what happened to Beckham because of his little kick out in the world cup.
"We" really need to get a grip because it is just a game. Death threats, etc. We are are the real problem, I think.

The sort of stuff that goes on in other leagues in other countries makes what Rooney did look so tame. It doesn't make it ok, but it is very tame. The diving, the retaliation, the cheating, the fighting, the spitting that goes on elsewhere receives less than half of the coverage and backlash that a Rooney or a Beckham bit of petulance receives.

I do agree in what your saying Ads and it is a fair point , but 2 wrongs have never made a right.....We should be showing the world we are are fair and sportsmanlike.....if that fails windmill them

Passionate or not he's not professional. His career highlights that. Is it his fault? Probably not. Spoilt with money and coached to believe he is the best thing since sliced bread is a recipe for disaster, especially when that person has an attitude problem. Granted he WANTS to win more than anyone on the pitch when he's playing - you can see it....through his frustrations of everyone else not being on par with his abilities.

Though the key things are: we and everyone else have talked about him being the best player and we need him to go. No we need the best team to go. That team should have role models in there showing kids of today what you can achieve and how to go about it. F**k it - they might even teach Rooney! Will we win without him? probably not. Will we win with him? Equally - probably not. (Of course I would like them to win, don't get me wrong). The game isn't just what happens on a pitch, it's teh cultire of the sport, fans and future thar follows it.

Should a man not be allowed to make mistakes? Of course not. We learn by mistakes. Look at Beckham's early errors and how he overcame them to be a very good ambassador for sport. That's because he learned and matured. Rooney hasn't, and feeding his ego with more rewards from unacceptable behaviour is not the way to do it. Put him on super nannys naughty step and give him a reality check.

    Just my opinion.
