I have a flat and need to change the wheel. Have used the hook type thing in toolkit to try to take the hub cap off - no chance of that. Tried other implement to no avail - is there a trick to this?

What style wheels?

If they're the 9-spoke RS4/TT style ones, AFAIK it's just brute force and ignorance, but it'll be easy if you can pull in at least two places (lift one edge with the pin and stick a card or something under it, then lift another, etc...).

B6 S4 originals. I had to bend the pin more as it was just flying out. Very poor design, plastic is weaker than the catches that secure it in, meaning you can easily damage the hub cap. Luckily, as you suggest, I have brute force and ignorance in abundance, so sorted it - cheers. now I just need to hope that my almost new Conti with a screw in it can be repaired......
