extending usb lead for hardrive

I would say probably, but i havent tried it.I know that my usb powered wd passport hates a 1m xtention but is fine with a 30cm.I guess youll have a better chance as your drive is mains powered
 
USB has a maximum length of 5m, so it should be fine, above 5m the response times are too long and it crap's out. I found this out when i used an old webcam as a way to look into what was blocking my drain, at 6m it wouldn't work, found out about the 5m rule and found a tennis ball, a bucket handle and several baby wipes. Don't you just love kid's !! lol

If its usb powered then 1 metre will probably not be liked given its losing the power along the wires, as its already very low state, it would be even lower thus keep connecting/disconnecting imho, now with his being mains powered I reckon it should be ok if its a decent usb cable with low loss as such.
