I need to replace the ignition switch on my 96 A4 2.8. Is this switch programmed to the key or ECU? In my Infiniti, the key has a chip that must be programmed or the ECU is disabled, and that can only be done by the dealer. Needless to say, they will not work on a used part so I would need to buy it from them.

I can get a switch for my Audi on car-parts.com for less than $100. The dealer part is $400+. Will I be able to just install the used switch or will it need dealer programming?

Thanks for your help!

If you are just replacing the key reader, then you do not need to have the keys reprogrammed AFAIK.

I can check this for sure later when I get home from work.

It would be the ignition key assembly. My key is stuck in the switch and I can't get it out.
