What type washer jets have you got? water pistol or fan spray?

    Hi guys,

One thing that gets me is the type of washer jet fitted to my 8l a3, I was going to post in the specific section but then I would be asking people with the same model which would lead to an unlikely result of them having a different type of washer jet to me.

On my old polo 6n the washer jets sprayed like a fan dispersing water across the whole screen, but in my a3 the washer jet is similar to a water pistol only spraying water in a certain area like below:

found this on google btw, not my car lol

This is the mist/fan type im after:

So which of the audi models come with the mist type? The ones on my a3 are fitted to the scuttle panel so would require some which fit in the same location.

My fathers passat has the mist type in the scuttle but the dimensions of the jets are different to mine so they don't fit.

I had jet type on my car until I found out that I could fit the fan type from the Passat. Here's the thread in the 8P forum:

    Fan washer jet heads

Part number is in there but I don't know if they'd fit an 8L.

Audi seem to insist on fitting these over the far superior (IMO) fan ones. For A4's its an easy conversion, see HERE so I would think it's easy enough for A3's too - cheap to boot

Strange coincidence, but I was just thinking about this today, Im sure I asked the question in the A3 section (8L) one a while ago, if you do a search, it should come up.

Sorry but I know nothing at all about A3's

If A3 jets look like the ones below it's probably worth a go, you might need to glue them into place though.

Not yet mate no, it's on my ever growing to do list! (Along with a Cupra splitter, but at least I have that now!)

IIRC Rich said they were about 20 for the fan washers, they are a bit more as I believe they are heated.

This thread has bought it to my attention again though, so it will be a New Years Resolution!

The S3 washer jets are heated anyway, so would that mean they are a straight swap??

I imagine so if they look the same, but as I say I don't know much about S3's! They need glueing in place in the A4's anyway so it will probably the same.

Hmmm, job for 2010 then by the looks of it

  14. #13
I purchased a set of Passat washer jets recently and have just got round to fitting them. Interesting, despite some others saying they needed to glue them in place, I just unclipped my existing 3 jet ones, disconnected the water and electrical connections, fitted them to the new ones and they clipped back into place exactly the same as the old ones. No need for anything else to secure them. The part number of the ones that came out was 8P0 955 988 E. The part number of the new ones was 5MO 955 986 9B9.

Now all I need is some dirty mucky weather to see how much better they are...

Thats incorrect, they supersede to the 986 C version now guys as mine are, was discussing the very thing today when ordering parts, Dave click on the 9B9 in part search not the part number & you'll see the superseded to A then C.

It does mate, but if you go into etka & click solely on the part number after doing a search with either part number or ATP it doesnt show its superseded, but if you double click solely on the 9B9 bit it shows superseded part A then double click this & you get current which is C, trust me mate its superseded as I remember our chat & thread months back where I asked why you got them & I got the C before you, my parts guy said yours must have come of the shelf at the dealer potentially as unused stock as you should if ordered from Milton or where ever stores are now, the C version as I did before yourself, strange but true, lol

I just said I wanted the fan type washer jets from a Passat to the parts guy at my dealers and he ordered the correct items. Had obviously ordered several sets before and knew straight away what I wanted. Whilst I use ETKA for my own benefit I would never try and tell the parts guy the actual part number. I always prefer to let him find the part number. If it's wrong for any reason it's then his problem not mine. Looking at the invoice it does if fact say 5M0 955 986C 9B9. I assume their system would automatically choose the latest version when they place an order if it has been superseded.

Yeah Dialog which is the ordering system auto goes from the non letter ending part no. to the C version mate.

Is it me or is ETKA 7.2 actually quite lacking compared to 7.1, atp misses alot of parts where as part no finds them but not alot of help if you wanna see which cars it fits which atp is good at.

just jumpin on this one lads, does it matter if I dont have the electrical connectors? I assume thats just for the heating element on the jets, which my a4 doesn't have, which is also kinda crazy, obviously the sport spec doesn't require them!!

Yes you can install, just beware if it ices up then continual pumping could cause issues with pipes & pump, unlikely but not impossible, but should be fine.

I've changed mine over to the fan type but I not convinced they are any better than the standard Audi 3-jet ones that came on the car. I adjusted them down because initially they were putting as much water on the rear screen as the front! They are better now but as I say, I don't think they are any better than the 3-jet ones. Perhaps it's the way I use my washers.

I have followed cars where the driver seems to wash the screen with a long continuous supply of water onto the his/her screen and mine and others behind me. Personally I just give quick bursts of screen wash and it clears perfectly well.

Well I've tried them and personally I think I prefer the original Audi 3-jet ones. So I now have a spare set of heated fan type jets. Still it was worth at least trying them.

If anyone is thinking of getting the non-heated version that would be a big step backwards in my opinion.

Staz, were your original Audi jets the 2-jet or 3-jet type. I've had both and the newer 3-jet ones are a definite improvement over the older 2-jet ones.

With the fan type, I found they still left an area at the top of the passengers side of the sweep area just smeary rather than cleaning it properly.

Yeah I'd agree, it spreads the spray out, so you get a much better wipe with less wiper movements, cleaner screen with less water too.

I think mine were the three jet. I like them because they wet a larger area at once meaning only the one spray blast is enough to clear the screen. With the jets the majority of the water gets concentrated in one area and the wipers don't get the chance to spread it about in time so I often found myself holding the button for longer.

Well each to their own. I have just refitted my original 3-jet ones and find I can get more water in the right places on the screen with those. My fan type ones are now sold to another member and will be on their way to him tomorrow.

The only problem was that I managed to drop one of the small black plastic clips which help to secure the screen wash pipes to one of the washer jet assemblies. It dropped into the engine compartment but unfortunately it didn't drop right through to the ground. I don't know if I will be able to purchase a replacement clip, but at the moment it's secured with a 'body clip' from one of my radio-controlled trucks.

Mine were 2 jet, but tbh even with 3 jets it wouldnt be anywhere near as good as these purely because the streams on jet style are only fired into one location on the screen, fans do a whole area, so much better.

Yeap I'd agree 100% with that, one pull of the stalk (ooh ahh) & the jobs done, much better overall at cleaning, less water & less wiper usage.

Sorry to revive this old thread. Has anyone bought the retro fitting kit for heated washers? I don't want to pay £30 if it's for heated "water pistol" style (rather than mist/spray style) and a couple of wires and fuses. If anyone could give me a bit more detail about the wiring side of things I'd buy the passat heated jets and make up the wiring myself. Why my sport spec a4 didn't come with heated jets I just don't know. It certainly isn't helping in -35 degrees mid winter
    cheers

    Question

I just installed my fan style Passat washer jets on my A4, and they work great.

However I'm having a hard time keeping them glued in to place under the hood. The connectors for the washer fluid and the power like to push the jet out of place after I've glued it.

Can anyone suggest a glue or some other strong adhesive? I've tried Loc-Tite super glue and it's not the greatest.

    Thanks

Loctite is normally mega when bonding plastic to plastic. Were all the surfaces clean and dry?
