I know it sounds like it should be obvious, here are the facts.

The allroad has:
Self leveling lights,
Headlamp washers that work,
Vagcom will scan the xenon range adaption module and bring back no fault codes.
The headlamp bulbs are nothing like as bright or as white as the RS.

So from what I can tell the allroad has most of the necessary hardware, could it be a previous owner just put the wrong bulbs in?

Also if the car didnt have xenons surely vagcom would try the address and upon receiving no response just move on to try the next module...?

Your thoughts gentlemen?

Can't you just check whether there's a ballast under the light? I did that to mine this weekend as my a4 had washer jets, but wasn't 100% sure if it just had washers, or xenons too. Turns out i have xenons, yay!

I thought all Allroads had xenons though, but could be completely wrong. :)

Yey for xenons! How did you check for balast bud?
I just want to refresh a load of stuff before driving to the alps at xmas

Sorry Pablo a pic of what? the headlight?

I was thinking that perhaps, its got some of the xenon hardware for the self leveling on account of the adjustable suspension, hence vagcom can communicate with that module it just doesnt have xenon projectors...

As far as I know all OEM ballasts are located under the headlight, in a little cubby hole. As in, it's part of the headlight unit and will need to come out. Usually it's just a few screws and they slide forward, although not sure it's the same on the allroad.

like this:

and it should look like this...(ish)

YOu may be right, I thought they all had Xenons, but I don't think they do actually. But as you say, it may make fitting them easier as they should have all the other gubbins, being on air etc.

Got any pics of the allroad? I love them!

Ill investigate later, thanks for the help bud,

and the plan is to get it to look something like this:

That's nice! Good job on the headlights, bet that made the lights a little dull!

Is it a 2.5tdi? I saw this pic the other week and thought it made the Allroad look badass. I'm not keen on the colour, it's a little bold, but bar the purple I love it!

You done the suspension mod to get it to sit lower?

Yeah Ive seen that one, your right the colour is a bit bold!

No I havent done the 402 mod and I dont think I will, this is the daily and it needs to be able to get me on to farms and down tracks so I'm keen to keep it at a standard level, plus I think with the right wheel tyre combo I can make it look really good at a normal height.

I'm planning on putting my spare b7 rs4 19x9's on it and I want as much sidewall as possible to defend against the wheel cracking etc. to be able to run as much sidewall as possible I think it's probably best to leave the lowest suspension height at a standard level.

You bought an allroad to be practical? pfft! :moa:

I think it will look good with the 19's on it. Have you got a build thread for it?

not really it's just the daily hack Ill concentrate on making it look pretty in about 6 months time lol

19" are too small, go for 20" if you can with 275 wide tyres- that would look sick ! Here's mine:

next to another allroad to which i fitted a bigger turbo and larger nozzles:

and my a6 on another set of wheels:

Nah it gets used off road and the wheels would crack for sure.

I'm thinking 245/45/19s far more purposeful IMO

I've got the rs for silly wheels and tyres

Them 20" are forged so they are stronger and lighter than the original wheels fitted to the car from factory ! 9" all round with 25mm hubcentric adapters makes for a very subtle and smooth ride. One thing i regret is not fitting 275 from the start, mine are 255 wide so look a bit stretched ! Anyway, whatever floats your boat...
