Can I use my VAG-COM cable with the neighbours BMW M3?

Apparently he has some software (gT1 or something) and was wondering if my vcds cable would work with his A$$ hole mobile.

A$$ hole car in question:
- BMW M3 E46 SMG (2003)

He's an okay guy. Proves the BMW a$$ hole theory is wrong on this one count only!

It wont work with GT1 from what Ross tech say, they also advise you don't try and it may damage the cable.

Vcds will pull and clear engine related codes. Data lists etc.
I've used mine for a fair few different cars, but won't touch anything like airbag, ABS etc.
This is covered a little on Ross techs site.
