    Daily Drivers

Just wondering how many of you have "daily drivers" and what you have?

Iv had a particularly bad month with the car (A4 B6 2.5TDi) - its all come at once.

I needed to purchase four new tyres - wasn't planning on changing tyres but the sidewalls cracked and were letting air out.
After this I had a tax reminder through the post, to top things off - when changing my oil I drained out an engine part which basically means I have worn cams.

    That puts the spend on the car for the month;
    Tyres - £490
    Camshaft Kit - £1145
    Tax - £140

The above payments had to be made on the credit card.

This is baring in mind I pay £170 per month for insurance which makes the total spend on the car almost £2000 over 30 days! (excluding fuel)

Needless to say - I will be paying off the credit card over the next few months, I hate being in debt.

The main reason I have thought about a daily drive is that I am currently repairing a friends Clio 1.2 16v (waiting on parts)
He called me asking for a jump-start, but broke down again a few miles later - basically he had the hazard warning light draining the battery gradually overnight and straining the alternator charging the battery whenever he drove.
I managed to source a used alternator for £25, an alternator belt for £5 and a hazard warning light for £6.
The alternator is right at the front of the engine and looks like a 10 minute job!

I think I will be on the lookout for a Clio once the credit card is paid off.

I bought my 1.8t A4 avant as my daily driver.

And keep my diesel Ibiza locked in the garage. I think I'm doing it wrong

    My A4 is my daily.
I don't want it to be. I want to get a motorbike but at the moment its not possible.

I would look at a pug HDI for a daily, they seem pretty bullet proof and good MPG.

Never do that!!! Prone for destroying turbos especially the 1.4 and 1.6 hdi. A colleague of mine has a 1.6 Berlingo van (2008) and within the past year he's done the turbo 3 times

My daily hack is the A3 - wife has the A6 as hers.

    I do 100 miles a day 5 days a week and she does about 200 a week.

    That the newer ones?

I all ways thought the old pug diesels was good cars.
I've never had one buy mates have had 106, 205s, 306s with out any issues.

Wow, that's allot of miles a day.
Cars do it with out to much hassle?

The thing is costing me so much at the minute, just hope it doesn't have any other nasty surprises for me.

Like you My 2000 V6TDi Q is my daily driver - not the cheapest to run, I think the q drive costs between 5 and 10 mpg on a car thats not very economical to start with, but I just love the V6 Tdi - so driveable and smooth. You must be a young person to be spending 170/month on insurance - one advantage of age is insurance gets cheaper! I am doing about 360 miles a week and I do enjoy the ride and quality of the Audi on every mile.

VAG 1.9tdi 4cyl units is what you want. Pretty much bombproof with regular servicing, and the occasional sensor needs replacing. My Passat TDI is on 192k miles now and still pulling strong, giving me 40mpg between most fills! I'm guessing an A4 equivelant would be as reliable.

Snap! I've just spent a few hours giving the S3 a proper clean, foam, clay and polish. My neighbours think I'm mad!
