I used to have a grey phase 2 16v 1.8 a couple of years ago, my pal had a red 1 at the same time. they are serious fun, but we both had lists of problems. mine blew up 2 days after I brought it ( the bottom end had a 12" crack in it) so I fitted a new engine I found for a £100, the engine was sweet so I replaced a lot of parts to make it run as good as it could. next the windows stopped working, then the sunroof, then the immobiliser broke because the sunroof leaked, the electric mirrors stopped it was endless. great to drive, but I couldn't own another haha

Also took the headlight off the number 1 the one as the no 2 is all broken inside so will change that over, i have a brand new pair coming for the 1

    a few new bits
    starter motor

some window regulator clips and side moulding clips the body shop need them

got a few new bits through the post today all the clips and bits and pieces ive needed for the body shop that have been needed i have bought twice so i dont need to hunt around for when i do the 1 also went down to the body shop everything is primered ready for paint

    Brilliant thread!

    God, I miss my red 1.8 16v.

It was an awesome little car, but like most other French hot hatches it was a buggar to keep on the road, Every time I took it to the garage it'd cost me £500 to £1000 to get it back on the road. I'd probably still have her as (an expensive) project but one cold day in December a 7.5 tonner decided to squish me into the cental reservation barriers on a dual carriageway and Kylie the Clio was no more. RIP Kylie :-(

Good on yer for keeping a Williams going!

Yea but saying that I forgot I had a 172 which I had for just over a year, that caused me no issues or problems at all. luck of the draw I recon haha. Your Williams is starting to take shape fair play.

Awesome thread mate. Double kudos for taking photos, they'll serve you well in many years whether you keep it or not. You can tell I wish I'd kept photos of my mk2 Escort that was rebuilt from the ground up. Stupidly gave them all the new owner as proof.

fantastic mate. I had a hybrid years ago. rebuilt a megane engine to go into it Great Little car apart from the rust and this was like 10 years ago I recon. I remember changing the alt, brings back memories what a pig of a job as was getting to the oil filter. Had to take the rad out to change it once. I thank you for the trip down memory lane and I hope you cherish it for many years to come.

Shouldn't you have taken the final pics at an Elf garage?

Seriously though, Loving this project! I've wanted one of these when they first came out but could only afford an RSI.
Test drove one & it cornered like a go-kart!
Even at only a few years old, the rear arches were blistering! Bloody tinfoil manufacturing!
They looked good with the quad headlight conversion, & you used to get an Ansa back box which sounded so sweet on them! A nice growl without sounding like a chav mobile.
What are you planning for it? Long term keeper?

    UPDATE
cleaned my itg filter and fitted it on

sorted out my rev counter the regulator had gone and was messing around with my electrics, my revs used to sit to high and go down when i used anything like electric windows all sorted now

    more new bits

    new cobra case

after seeing P4cks refurb his steering wheel thought i would give it ago

    leather dye

as my grill was broken and i had no clips i got a some new ones with a new primered grill got to get it painted

i also managed to find a rear boot trim on ebay for the number one in a job lot sale, i ordered one off RPD a couple of months ago but renault dont make them no more so they could not get it, it came with some clio side trims for the willy 1 and 2 also some other bits that i no use to me but all only cost me £30 so happy days

been doing bits that have been needed doing for a while so as the weather has been ok lately thought i would get on the case

took the TB off and gave it a good clean then re oiled up

sorted the TPS as the wires were bare so used a hot glue gun, works a treat

cleaned the ISCV in my ultrasonic cleaner

i have a wobble at low speeds on the speedo and its making it idle at 1500 k after booting it, Its messing around with the speed sensor so i change the plastic doofer and re earthed the speedo wire but still no luck my cable has had it, so ordered one of RPD today and that should be the end of all the little problems and all running sweet

was a nightmare getting the cable out

    old plastic pin

also found a great condition parcel shelf and some half carpet mk1 clio mats, 1 need re-carpeting other then that im well happy with them got the lot for a £10 to

got my speedo cable and fitted it a few days ago and all is running sweet, no more high revs after booting it and no more wobbly speedo

    fixed up my heatshield

got some 10mm spacers for the back and some new bolts all round

also got this part that goes on the gear stick link bar as my one has gone completely and the gear stick moves around so this should stiffen it up

    thats it for now

That reminded me, I did my steering wheel parts with a carbon fibre wrap. Looked good as far as I remember.
Defo well worth hanging on the the 1 once it's restored. Pretty sure it will be a future classic!

yeah i got a 1:18 size diecast model it way up high and protected from the kids

got some number plate surrounds but only 1 fitted on the rear as its to narrow on the front bumper

also fitted my stickers big thanks to Paul Wright

the rear boot never had the no 2 on it so all complete now

got a few more things to do like fit the rear spacers, 4th gearbox mount of a Clio 172 also got a poly-bushed dog bone on the W1 so going to put it on the W2 and that's it for now get ready for FCS

got a bit done today in this muggy weather was even worse when i had to take things off the W1 in the garage like fooking oven

fist i started with the gear linkage spring feels so much better now a lot less movement

then took the dog bone off as i wanted to swap it with the powerflex one off the W1 in the garage

looks knackered to me will get a new one for the W1

Then took the powerflex dog bone off the number 1 in the garage

    then fitted to the W2

i also noticed my front shock was leaking so i swapped it over with one on the W1 in the garage, going to get new ones for when i restore the W1

    fooked

then i thought, be easy just swap them over NOT different fooking springs seem to be lower on the one so i had to change them over to

    all done

put a new gasket and sealent as i had a slight leak on my front pipe
